Riggs wouldn’t be denied!

One of my favorite lines by a game caller was a short yardage situation when Casey kept the ball and, sort of, "surfed" over the line of scrimmage to make the down. He said something like, "Clausen makes the first down, but, he looked like a an octopus falling out of a tree". Man. I laughed out loud just writing that!

Holy crap😂 How could I forget a line like that?!

2005 was easily the most disappointing season ever for Tennessee football. We were ranked #3 in the preseason and finished 5-6... but this game was awesome. It was played on a Monday night due to Hurricane Katrina and the team had to fly down to Baton Rouge and play later that same night because of the lack of hotel capacity, which was not exactly fair. LSU should have agree to play this game in Knoxville with the 2006 game switched to Baton Rouge... but whatever. I remember watching this from Rookies (long since closed) and it was packed when the game started but then cleared out at halftime due to our especially pathetic first half performance. It was rocking again by the end of the night, though. Great win!

I had tix to the LSU game. Was going to fly into NO, stay in Baton Rouge and NO for a few days. It turns out Katrina happened and my Dad had to have a surgery in Knox. I was a member on another board back then...Voltalk maybe? and I mailed my tix to a poster on there that had just gotten married and were wanting to go to the game.

Watched it camping on Myrtle Beach. Clemson buddy of mine was like "that Riggs is a good RB" between us we had 4 teenage boys who started watching on the side of the RV and gave up to play vid games inside when we got down 10-0 I think. They heard us yelling when Riggs ran it in and came out to watch. LOL. Memorable night.

It's Rick in this game, not Casey.

Ron Franklin and Mike Gottfried were an awesome duo.

Yes; I know Mike, He helped me with a project with espn. Mike did so much for the area; founding the Mobile Bowl Game that is still going. Mike began to slip in the early 2000's (words were slurred, reaction slowed) . The last time I called him it was difficult; I suspect He had a neurological event. Those two were the best.

I can tell you that the home crowd was not too happy after the game. My wife is an LSU fan and we had to separate on our way out of the stadium due to drunk tiger fans throwing stuff at me. These folks are bad enough when they have been drinking and tailgating for 24+ hours. When they have had 3 days to do it before a game they are especially rowdy.

RON FRANKLIN. Great TV Play by Play Man. espn let him go; too CHEAP to pay the Man.
I agree 100%. That broadcast crew was the best in college football IMO.....IIRC didn't Franklin get into some kind of trouble with a remark he made to Holly Rowe during a broadcast? Also I think there was another issue with a sideline reporter that got him fired by ESPN.

He was really good but ultimately couldn’t overcome being a jerk to work with.

That's surprising. I've been to 2 games at LSU in my life, and both times the LSU fans could not have been friendlier or more hospitable to an opposing fan. Now.....most of them are drunk off their rears most of the time, but generally good folks.

Athens? I've been there 4 times. Most obnoxious, ill mannered, ridiculously confrontational fan base in the nation. It's a large reason why I consider UGA a trash program overall. Their cheap shot mentality on the field and insufferable fans make for a ridiculous program.
