Ridiculous Athletic Dept. Decision...

If a baby gets a cold at that age it turnds in RSV. RSV is deadly. Babies that young cant fight off colds or ear infections. If it gets the flu then your in Childrens hospital for a week. Shouldn't take babies under 3 months old out of the house.

How have we as a population survived for so long? Anyone can get sick anywhere. There was a time in this country that there was no such thing as indoor heating and air. Somehow babies were born and survived without delivery rooms, doctors, nurses, hospitals. Yet, with the advances in medicine, clothing, and care, its now more important than ever to keep your baby in an incubation tube than it is to live? 3 months of keeping your baby in one place only puts off the inevitable illnesses and delays the immune system developing for 3 months. Babies are born in Hospitals, tell me there is a place more filled with germs and disease than a hospital. Yet the fresh air in knoxville is bad for your baby. The chill of the night can't be warded off by a blanket and a coat? By your body warmth? By your love and kindness. Again, this board acts like this guy is going to hike across alaska for a month with an infant, (WHICH PEOPLE DO, WITH BABIES!).

I'll give you one, don't take your baby base jumping, white water rafting, or mountain climbing. Don't perform fire and rescue searches with your baby. Don't wrestle alligators with your baby. But for the most part, being close to your baby when you want to be close to YOUR baby is ok. God designed them to be pretty resilient little snots for a reason. Because no matter how you break it down, the smartest, most capable and able to handle the rigors of raising a child, aren't the only ones having them. We all have seen parents and people that made you wonder how in the world they survived, yet they did.

If you're trying to tell me babies were better off before hospitals, you need to look up infant fatality rates prior to modern medicine. As well as mothers dying during child birth. In fact, go raise your family in the hills of East Tennessee to get a real look.

Also, the air in Knoxville isn't fresh. The air quality ranks in the 20 worst in the country and is the allergy capital of the country.

I do agree that he's stretching things greatly by saying keep kids under 3 months in the house at all times.

Yes things are better now! I just wanted to point out all the rediculous claims about the baby being in danger by going to a foitball game! Its silly. To lamblast a guy just cause he wants to go to the game with his baby is just silly. To claim poor parenting, health risks, or anything outside of better you than me is crazy. Its his decision, and chances r the loss by tennesse will far outweigh any harm the child will face.

It's not crazy to assume that there will be at least one out of control person near him. It happens at every game.

I'm not saying something bad will happen. The risk just isn't worth an event that the child won't remember.

And you can protect your baby all you want. That noise level is not good for him/her.

I agree there are risks. Just like with everything, and if he wants to take that responsibility then that is on him. I wouldn't take a 2 month old. I don't have the money or the resources to go to many UT games, so when I get to go I want to be free to enjoy the game. But I can't fault a guy who is willing to do that, if that is what he wants to do. His choice. He isn't stupid, a bad parent, a bad person. As for the noise being an issue. It would be if the loudest parts of the game lasted for the full 3 hours of the game. But you and I both know that doesn't happen anymore at tennessee. The short bursts of noise are going to do no damage, and the baby will sleep through most of it. And if tennessee were to win, chances are they won't, but if they were, again, you are talking minimal impact at best, and 48 hours of rest would repair what minimal impact was had to begin with.

I did take my 3 year old this year. We had a great time. top 10 best days of my life. It was a blast. He had a blast. We watched the first half from our seats in the crowd, and then when he got bored, we moved to a relatively empty section so he could move around more and wouldn't bother anyone. It was fantastic.

I would question the logic of anyone taking an 8 week old to an extremely loud, outdoor football game in late October.

The OP blaming the AD is hilarious. Pretty sure they might have saved you from being reported to Family Services.

Who takes an 8 week old baby to place that germ filled?

You need to take some parenting classes instead of attending the football game.

I took mine to an Orange and White game when they were 7. I was 10 when I went to my first one. Their attention span was about 1 quarter. Then i spent the rest of the afternoon with two kids sleeping in my lap. I loved it but we waited until they were 9 for the first game. I have twins.

8th month is crazy. Changing diapers? Feeding? Napping?

This isn't a serious post is it?

8 weeks old, not 8 months old.

So that's his fault? It's his business, not ours.I would not do it but maybe he can't get a babysitter, etc., maybe he just wants to get out of the house. Having a small baby is very demanding. Maybe his wife wants a break and he takes the baby to the game. No one bothered to ask his reasoning I don't think.

Besides your cool story. The announcement at EVERY GAME clearly states that you have to have a ticket for everyone regardless of age. I have known that for 35 years. Don't know why the OP thought that they would make a special case just for him.

just found out today that I will not be able to bring my little 8 week old girl to her first Tennessee game because I will need to have two tickets instead of one. She will be in a front cover back-pack carrier and it still means that I have to get a second ticket...absolutely moronic if you ask me. If we were making money it wouldn't be an issue...

taking a child that young (without something to completely cover their ears) is a a bad idea...noises that loud just hurt the child's developing ears at this age

germ-filled is the least concern (unless they're carrying him/her into the restrooms)

The bad idea is exposing the ears of a child that young to...what 80-100 something or more decibel levels of people screaming?

I remember the last time I went Lexington, it was cold as balls and had snowed some the night before. Lo and behold, I see some UK fans pushing a stroller around the tailgate area with a tiny baby covered in blankets. I thought, man, UK fans are dumb. I guess everyone has their idiots.

Obviously he has never been to a game or is like me been to a ton of games and did not recall hearing that announcement. People have a tendency to automatically think a baby can cause such derision and that's just not the case. Some young children are better behaved than older ones.

I agree if it is too cold or hot that's a horse of a different color.
