Ridiculous Athletic Dept. Decision...

Terror striking agents (TSA) show more hospitality on flights than Neyland does! Burn it to the ground!!! Seriously though, eight weeks the little one will probably sleep the whole time. Baby beanie and muffs and you'll be gtg. Stadium will be empty after 1st quarter anyway.

have you ever tried to get a baby and all the gear through a security checkpoint? Evidently they got a tip on baby wipes before we went thru last time

just found out today that I will not be able to bring my little 8 week old girl to her first Tennessee game because I will need to have two tickets instead of one. She will be in a front cover back-pack carrier and it still means that I have to get a second ticket...absolutely moronic if you ask me. If we were making money it wouldn't be an issue...

Yeah at least you didn't find out til you got to game like an NFL QB did at the Super Bowl a few yrs. back.

And your child's life.

In the hands of thousands of drunk people surrounding you.
So that's his fault? It's his business, not ours.I would not do it but maybe he can't get a babysitter, etc., maybe he just wants to get out of the house. Having a small baby is very demanding. Maybe his wife wants a break and he takes the baby to the game. No one bothered to ask his reasoning I don't think.

Yeah, your parenting is your own business... but I can't really imagine a safe place for an 8 week old's hearing in Neyland.

I went to my first game when I was 3 or 4. Seems like a better time to start. My hearing loss has only reached the point where I can't hear my wife. Not really an issue.

I would question the logic of anyone taking an 8 week old to an extremely loud, outdoor football game in late October.
Exactly. My daughter is 19 months and I doubt she'll go to a game until she's around 5. We may do an orange and white game in a couple years. Kids have 0 attention span so half the game you'd be dealing with them and that's not fair to either person.

I wholeheartedly agree with almost every post in this thread. Bringing a 8 week old baby to a TN football game is moronic.

Eh, if he came after the 1st quarter is over, it will probably be pretty quiet....

How young is too young for kids? Planning on coming to the Mizzou game with my two kids and now having second thoughts.

I guess it depends on who we play. I wanted to bring my now 2 year old son to the Florida game. Bit I'm glad I didn't cause it was loud that game. That is until Florida took the lead and didn't look back. I asked that same question before I bought the tickets about how young is too young. Most the users said that 3 or 4 would be the right time to take them.

not telling you how to raise your kid.. but baby ears are very sensitive, there is to much noise in a stadium of 100k people, and you can seriously do permanent damage to your childs hearing.

If you do decide to bring a baby that young I would recommend getting some type of ear protection

i have a 5 yr old ,still havent taken her to a game. maybe within the next 1-2 years ill start taking her. too much going on at a game for small kids imo

Great day dude!!! Give it a break I wouldn't even take mine out to eat at 8 weeks, flu season.

I was this guy (OP) back in '98. Daughter was 14 weeks old and we thought it was a great idea to take her to a UT game. We beat Houston 42-7 and went on to win the MNC. In the end it worked out well for UT.

PS. - Never did this again as it was a big cluster. I do not recommend taking a small child that has no interest in the game, to the game.

Terrible idea, I sure wouldn't want to be next to a 8 wk old at a UT football game. Thats nuts. Nut up and pay a sitter, forchrissakes. Think of the children....starting with your own.

I'll pass on whether taking an 8 month old child to a game is appropriate, it's not my kid.

But back to the original issue- It's been the policy at UT for as long as I can remember:

"Everyone must have a ticket regardless of age."

Been that way for a long time, so not sure why the OP is surprised.

Although we admire your passion for UT football and your will to sway your kids minds into being all things Tennessee, please keep your 8 week old at home. Very chilli night, very loud, plus you have to buy a seat for him or her. It's not a good idea.

if that is what you need to get out of the house go for it, take her down to the strip, some chick might think its's cute

Reading the comments on this topic, i have come to the conclusion that the people on this board give tennessee way too much credit for being loud, and are really really glad they are getting to talk about something other than how bad the state of tennessee football is....

Far worse decisions are being made by people everyday than taking your child to a football game of any magnitude. Taking an 8 week old, 8 month old, 18 month old, 8 year old, 18 year old to a football game is a decision to be made by that parent and what their expectations are for the game. The OP was simply surprised by though of having to purchase another ticket not whether or not everyone thought it was the right thing to do.

Some of you act like he will be taking this baby to a war zone, when, in all reality, there will be tons of empty sections where he can sit safely and watch the game.

And chances are, they won't stop you for another ticket if you are wearing your child. Just hand them the tickets you have and you should be good.

Has the OP replied since the landslide of negative sentiment?

Yes, several pages back he made a comment and ended it with ...and I'm a great dad (or something like that).

I'm wondering if he is still going to bring the baby to the game??? That's the question on everyone's mind!

If a baby gets a cold at that age it turnds in RSV. RSV is deadly. Babies that young cant fight off colds or ear infections. If it gets the flu then your in Childrens hospital for a week. Shouldn't take babies under 3 months old out of the house.
