Ride This One Out

What coach in his right mind is going to jump on board if Butch is fired after being allowed to only get 2 recruiting classes and 3 seasons to prove himself? Nationally, the whole situation would be more toxic than Chernobyl. There is a difference between being passionate fans and being illogical fools.

Face it, there is no chance Butch gets fired unless we miss a bowl. The program has been in an up trend ever since Butch came on board and anyone that can't see that is blind. This has always been a 7-8 win team at best that was hyped into oblivion in the pre-season.

Volnation and Vols fans as a whole are always quick to pull the trigger and then get pissed when the team doesn't magically when the championship. Butch isn't going anywhere.

He will get this year and next unless something disastrous happens. If by this point next year we have not turned the corner then very serious behind the scenes discussions need to happen with Cutcliffe. He can use the player foundation we have and win. He can then keep building the house and grooming a successor over the next few years.

Like Vandy it's been down to long. There is no hope with Hart like minions in control.

I like Cut, but that ship sailed a long time ago. Like the other posts on this thread, in the absence of a team meltdown or ugly "altercation" rumors being substantiated, Butch is not going anywhere and 2016 is the target year for us to contend. We need to focus on salvaging the season and landing a solid class.

Been riding this Big Orange steed for over 4 decades, not ever jumping off. It slows every now and then, but someone will apply the spurs to the flanks and off we go.

Same here.
I get pissed, disgusted, and if I were a Bammer or Gator bandwaggoneer, I'd jump off and ride another horse.
But I'm a Vol.
Have been since I was little, grew up listening to them since John Wards second year.
Ride it out. Next year is the year. Too much pre-season hype, too many expecting too much right now.
This ain't McDonald's, it's the SEC. RARELY does a program down like ours was rebound quickly.
These kids, and these coaches, just have to learn how to close out the big games in big boy football.
I believe they'll get there.
That goes for the youngsters, and for Coach Jones.

I have been a fan and watching for 45 years. Tennessee fans have always been fickle. They loved and then hated (and for some liked again) Bill Battle, Johnny Majors, Phil Fulmer and Lane Kiffin (who we now openly dislike for leaving and secretly admire as Saban's OC). Dooley we just plain don't like. It is like living with someone with bipolar disorder with passive aggressive tendancies. We wonder why the premier coaches have not lined up for such "dedicated" adoration.

I absolutely think he is staying and 16 is the year for judgement. However if 16 is a failure a contingincy plan has to be made and I think Cut is the best guy to get things stable. He is not the sexy hire that people want but he would be solid. If the current administration would have been serious with him in 2010 he would have been here instead of Dooley.

I agree. Chief would be here too if he had and we would have had stable competitive years instead of flushing away the next 5 years and really having rebuild from the ground up as we have post Dooley.

Hamilton would not have let that happened. He was determined to reshape the football program without the Fulmer era people. What should have happened was a transition to Cut where Fulmer was allowed a graceful exit and transition. Instead we humiliated s national championship coach and alienated the best performing staff we have had in the modern era. It set the tone for the era that followed. So we can't complain about disloyalty or buyouts or not understanding tradition.

If and thats a big if they were to fire butch, then they need to throw all the money they possibly can to Dabo Swinney and make him say no!! And even then not sure he would leave clemson anyway.

He wouldn't come because TN fans wouldn't BYOG, lol.

"The people that followed Fulmer(Kiffin, Dooley) those were mistakes. Now you've got the third guy after Fulmer and you've got to ride this one out. Certainly this season can be rescued but really if you look at it big picture wise next season is the one that TN should really be aiming for. That's when the talent should cycle up and have enough experience to really compete for division titles."

David Climer - The Tennessean
I agree with this 1005, but we really need to make a bowl this season.

Lots of pie in the sky. Jones needs to start winning games. He eased off the gas against OK, then the defense could not get off the field against FL, came out passing in the 2nd half against AR, each loss has taught another lesson. I did hear Butch say that it's all about the matchups, that's on point. I'm the worst for expecting great wins from the team, so much has gone wrong, a large amount is all Butch, but at the same time, without calling out players by name or number, they need to make some plays.
GO VOLS!

Bryant had already won at Kentucky and Texas A&M, plus only lost 1 game his third year at Bama and Dooley was as overrated a coach as we've ever had in the SEC. He won very little without Herschel Walker.

Vince Dooley's 25 year record was 201 wins -77 losses - 10 ties. He won 6 SEC titles and 1 National title in 1980 with, yes, Herschel Walker. Overrated??? What color is the sky in your clueless world, Unimane? Good lord.... Where do you people come from??? Please, don't answer that; just go back to sleep...

Brother, you might want to drink the decaf. Not worth having a cardiac event defending the Vincester. Just saying. Respect. Slowly backing up here. Nice and slow.
Seriously, I kid. Have a blessed day and your debate partner who called Vince out as well. We really need a win here in Voltown - people getting edgy.

Butch won plenty before coming to save this dumpster fire. So your theory is a little flawed. Plus, this is uncharted territory for rebuilds. Attempt to bring a school back to title contention in the best league in CFB with A roster that was literally no better than UK or Vandy. Oh, and do it in 30 games. The only school in this league that is comparable and has achieved in recent times is Ole Miss...and I'm not sure their roster was as depleted as ours. But he did one hell of a job.

You used Butch and "unCHARTed" in the same sentence lol

No cardiac here, db, and me drinks me real coffee just likes me whiskey; straight and no mix. I'm no big Vince Dooley fan, but, he earned my respect. These scooters that blow steam through their hat not knowing jack-snot what they're talking about, I find, somewhat, annoying. I've been religiously following our beloved Vols since 1956 and could not agree with you more; we really do need this win. Thanks for your concern and the post, my friend... GBO!!!

His record without Walker isn't that special at all.
