I think Boston is the best player in the SEC, but Reese probably deserved SEC POY for this season. Cardoso definitely deserved 6th woman of the year award and the All Freshman team looks about right though Watkins is missing.
Agree about Reese. But since she's not a senior and they had Newcomer of the Year to give her, it tilted to Boston. If it was old fashioned Most Valuable, that's definitely Reese.

Newcomer of the Year is not an *official* SEC award given by the AP or coaches. That was from USA Today. The traditional award is "Freshman of the Year", and that went to Flau'jae Johnson.

In spite of Reese's gaudy stats, I think Boston was a deserving winner.

You're right, Newcomer of the Year for Reese was in that USA Today All SEC team I posted yesterday. Already getting them mixed up!

Interesting how they arrive at numbers for various awards. Eight players on every list here except All Defense, where there's only 6. Not 2 more SEC players deserving?

Reese is actually a better player, u will see when they both are in the WNBA.

Boston will be dominant early in the WNBA. Reese is an excellent player that has a limited offensive arsenal, and good defenders can neutralize her some. I don’t know which will be the better long term WNBA player, but I’m taking Boston with my pick. The LSU team is centered on Reese and she gets all the PT and shots she wants. Won’t work that way in the WNBA, and Boston will flourish there In single coverage.

Agreed re Boston. The head-to-head matchup told the tale. Boston showed she's clearly the better player on both sides of the ball.

I agree. When she isn't making a living on the glass, her offensive bag isn't that deep, imo. When she hits the W, that unorthodox (scoop shot) will not work. And her back to the basket moves aren't that fluid.

To her credit though, she absolutely carried LSU every single game except SC.

I think she knows that. I noticed in the MSST game she was taking the 15 foot jumper. She made a few of them and the shot doesn't look bad. My guess is that by next season, she will be money with that short jumper.

For sure. She'll be front-runner for SEC POY (and maybe NPOY) if she extends her range.

Boston is a much more polished player all around than Reese and will be more WNBA equipped. Boston has a lot of range offensively, Reese can hit the mid range jumper from time to time but isn't super consistent. I think its something her and Mulkey are continuing to work on. She has always had a funky shot. But Reese is outstanding herself, even withstanding the OOC schedule, putting up 23 points 16 rebounds a game during conference play with a lot of focus on her defensively is mighty impressive.

The difference is SC is a much deeper team with more talent to where they aren't limited to running the team through 2 players at all times. LSU is in a rebuilding stage a bit and has had to run the team through Morris/Reese this year most the time. LSU's bench is basically on par with UCONN, they legit get nothing from the bench at all so their starting 5 is basically getting all the action. Although I am a big fan of their freshmen Sa'Myah Smith who comes off the bench.

I do think given the transfer portal, SEC should add a newcomer award.

But I think Boston is easily the best player in the country even if the stats don't reflect it. She draws a lot of attention to open up looks for her teammates. If Reese had won it, I would still say its very deserving. You take Boston away, SC maybe losses a few games at most. You take Reese away from LSU, its a middle of the pack rebuilding SEC team. Not saying that like its a bad thing but thats my take at least.

Congrats to all the players who earned those honors

Beal should have won defensive player of the year.

It will be interesting to see how Boston performs in the WNBA where they can't afford to put two or three players on her.
