Would a Rick Barnes hire make you happy?

I'm too lazy to look but are there any Texas recruits that were spring signers that he could possibly woo our way?

Two signed. Eric Davis and Kerwin Roach. Roach said he will remain committed to Texas but Davis said that Barnes told him he would be at Texas next year and Barnes was told this after the Butler game but once he was fired no comment has come from davis (that I could find).

Bob may indeed be hearing something. But I remind you all that we are using a search firm. Please try to remember what this looked like in the past when MH used a search firm. ALL of the most dependable sources were saying things like this all the time. And they were all wrong. Why? Because either their "sources" were also misled (most likely) or they were trying to mislead (not out of the question). Just a day ago all the solid sources pointed to Holtmann.

People who are against Rick Barnes need to step back and take a look at the program

We're just coming off two coaches fired for NCAA violations and one leaving for a lateral move. We have a tremendous ways to go to even field a competitive roster this fall, and zero identity as a program.

This isn't a destination job. We're not getting Greg Marshall, Bruce Pearl, Shaka Smart, or Archie Miller.

We're not even getting Chris Mack or Mick Cronin.

The decision is between guys like Richard Pitino, Michael White, Chris Holtmann, Will Wade, and apparently Rick Barnes. From that list if you can't see Barnes is far and away the best option, I don't know what to tell you.

Barnes comes in and immediately brings credibility to the program. Is he perfect? No. But you can find more positives than negatives with him, and he brings more to the table than all those other 3rd tier guys combined.

It would be an unbelievably good hire for the position we're in

Then...you don't know what to tell me.

And I refuted every stinkin' one of them.

Oh and I see we have a new one, NCAA violations. Where in the he!! are you coming up with that one? Now you're just making ish up.

You haven't refuted a damn thing. You just babble on about how the program isn't a mess. A 2 year old baby kangaroo could look at the situation and laugh like everyone in the nation is. If this mess isn't that bad to you I sure as hell would hate to see bad!!

The possible NCAA trouble is a fact, you see again, reading comprehension is key little one. Possible means a possibility of something. We possibly could be punished for Donnie deleting emails on our watch. We do not know yet, so yes it is POSSIBLE.

But hey let's see if Izzo or coach K is interested since this job is so desirable. If Hart could hire a big name
He would and for you to think that is the only reason we don't is laughable. This program is a circus
right now, it's not up for debate it's a fact that you behind your orange sun glasses and orange jump suit refuse
To recognize. We will get an up and comer or a Barnes type and that's it. I would bet my life you were one of the morons saying Gruden was coming. I love TN but my God try and have some sense.

I would say things changed a little because Texas had not made it official when we started looking. Bob has been correct on pretty much everything else.

You've given nothing of substance but all your bs about how pitiful the program is. It's obvious you know nothing about how a college AD works and specifically the UT AD. Every time you add crap degrading the program to the point of making ****e up about NCAA sanctions when none are pending. You shouldn't even call yourself a fan. I suspect you're a fairly young dude. Good luck with your coaching. Make sure before the season you tell your players which ones they should win and which ones they should lose.

And since you're so caught up on reading comprehension, maybe you should go back read my post again, smart guy. I said all along I fully expect UT to "settle" for another ho-hum hire.

And why don't you post that link where we face possible NCAA sanctions. Since you're the only one that seems to know about them why don't you enlighten us?

Yep. I've seen what Barnes can do. (His in game coaching is so uninspired it makes Bruce look like a tactician...and that takes some doing.) I'd love to give Wade or White a chance to show what they can do.

You'd hand the keys of the program to two guys who haven't even made an NCAA tournament game...yeah I don't know what to tell you

Meh. This feels kind of like Ole Miss hiring Houston Nutt.

It's mostly a bandaid. Not a great solution, but maybe that's what we need right now.

Not super exciting on the surface for me but we could probably do worse.

We could definitely do worse. We could also possibly do better.

I look at this like, say.. Texas needing a football coach at the end of 2008, and they say "Well, Fulmer needs a job and he has a great record!" when the reality is that Fulmer was washed up at the end of his career.

Barnes is the basketball version of post-2008 Fulmer. Why would we want that? Insane.

If hired Barnes would have the 2nd most wins in the SEC behind Billy D...he's an underachiever though. Let's take yet another risk at a mid major hire smh.

As in the last 2 coaches

Yep. I would rather take a shot on Will Wade. I don't know why exactly but I feel like we're going to regret not hiring him a few years down the road.

I think Ole Miss football is a great example in this scenario. Their gamble on Hugh Freeze proved to pay off and be much more exciting than their "safe" hiring of Houston Nutt. Who had just been let go at Arkansas.

Different scenarios sure. I just wouldn't pass over a guy just because he doesn't have enough experience. Either he can coach or he can't.
