Would a Rick Barnes hire make you happy?

I don't think money will be able to keep Hurley away from where I'm thinking he goes in five years (if successful at UT)

I also must admit I have no idea what BO to Goofus means.

Buyout to Dooley. I always saw Dooley referred as Doofus but I guess he put his own spin on it.

From FoxsSports..I think it will be Barnes and it will be announced within a week

Could Rick Barnes trade his burnt orange to the brighter Tennessee shade of the color? Some college basketball experts think that may be a possibility. In discussing his recent dismissal from Texas, Barnes hinted that he may have a new job pretty soon.

“Will I coach again? Yeah," Barnes said over the weekend, via Scout.com's Chip Brown. "Probably quicker than you think.”

After hearing what Barnes had to say, various writers and analysts immediately mentioned Tennessee as a possible landing spot for the 60-year-old.

Hiring Barnes would certainly make a splash for Tennessee. What do you think, Vols fans?

Thanks to you as well.

this is like the 20th time this has been posted. Being available seems to be the only link so far. Not saying it won't happen, but it would be viewed as a let down if I was a basketball fan.

Let me say this:

You guys were right about KD. I remembered it a little differently, but KD was a huge get for Barnes. He didn't do much with him, but he was a once in a lifetime get.

I personally think Barnes would be an excellent hire for Tennessee. I think he would bring the stability and experience that the program needs right now. That being said, I'm not sure I would expect the same level of recruiting from Barnes at Texas than I would from Barnes at Texas. No offense to Tennessee, but UT decided they wanted to be good at basketball when they hired Barnes, and flexed their financial muscle. It will be interesting to find out though, maybe he can keep it up.

Thanks.

Still don't see a successful Hurley staying on Rocky Top if he gets a phone call from Durham no matter how many Brinks trucks are brought in.

You're assuming that Hurley would be the pick. There are several coach K diciples out there. If it were him, he'd be gone for sure.

I am making the assumption that a successful Hurley is the pick. Right now the only good pick out there is Brey. I'm not making some wild assumption. There's a reason no one here is calling for Capel, Wojo, Collins, Amaker or Snyder to come to Knoxville. And I think K stays around too long for the pick to be Brey.

I think Barnes could recruit well here. He could recruit TN as the talent in the midstate is getting better. He could pull the occasional player out of Memphis. And, he could recruit Atlanta which is a three hour drive. This is basically what Pearl was doing. I think recruiting would pick up quickly from what we'd been seeing from Martin and Donnie.

Wojo has been mentioned.

Wojo has been mentioned.

Unless I missed it, Wojo was no more than thrown out there. With the only reasoning being that Marquette's politics makes the Tennessee situation seem like a dream. And let me please state that I think the Hart/Cheek situation is EXTREMELY exaggerated.

Lol, it's all speculation brother. None of it is proven.

Edit: I see your edit, yes he's unproven but the topic was which Coach K diciple might be coach K'sK's replacement in a few years. By then he will either be proven or not. Who knows?

Gotta think Barnes has some players he's been recruiting that he can bring with him. Kinda like the Tyndall situation but with better players.

Right, because struggling in the tourney is way worse than not making it...

Does anyone know anything about his assistance at Texas?
Just speculation, but if he takes the Tennessee Job will they all come here with him?

Duke could possibly have their next coach on the bench already. Setting next to coach K.

Signed a 4 star PG. Texas boy. Not sure he'd follow. Be nice though.

I think Rick Barnes or Scott Drew (coach of Baylor) would be excellent hires for UTk. You have to keep in mind though, now that the Greg Marshall hype has ended for Bama (lol at the fact they actually thought they could get him) they are pushing for Barnes as well. That's just the Bama fans thought...who knows what the actual admin is doing.

Barnes can recruit at Texas, getting mostly kids from Texas, to the flagship program in Texas. How does that translate to recruiting at UT? Do you think it translates? Rick Barnes was not considered a top notch recruiter when he went to Texas, but it didn't matter to Texas, because the name on the jersey takes care of recruiting.

40% of his recruits, since Rivals inception are OOS kids. Not a bad percentage. If he can pull MI, NJ and CA kids to TX I feel confident he could pull kids from ATL, B'ham, Nashville to UT.
