DeVoe picked it up pretty well and went to the NCAA his first 5 years. Four of those years were pre 64 team field. DeVoe struggled initially with the shot clock and 3 pt line changes, but adjusted to field a more offensive minded team that by his last year at UT, they were strong and made the NCAA again. He did lose in the first round and got fired afterwards. Sort of an anomaly now. So he generated 6 NCAA teams in 9 years. Dickey ****ed it all up for a few yearsFair enough, and all due respect to Coach Mears. However, that was 50 years ago and until recently it took Coach Barnes to show us this level of success on a consistent basis.
