Rick Barnes has emerged as a serious candidate the for UCLA job, reportedly has interviewed

Well, can't find the link! Hopefully a moot point anyway since we have a different athletic director now.

If Barnes really is a legitimate contender for UCLA (which I believe is questionable), I would expect him to jump at the offer. I don't buy the "loves Tennessee" and "California is too expensive" angles. It would be a nice upgrade for Barnes.
Huh?
His wife is a UT grad. He’s from the south. LA is about as unBarnes as you can get. Can’t imagine UCLA would pay a $5 mil buyout and $5ion salary for a coach at his age. If they do the more power to them. And if Barnes bites then he wasn’t who we thought he was.

While that makes sense, Barnes is closer to retirement than Pearl. Question is how Barnes views a path to a natty the the rest of his career. With solid recruiting, UCLA could easily be back to a top program in the country.

UCLA has been idiots with this 4 month coaching search so they could be desperate and want to throw money at top names. Barnes could just be on their list.

UCLA isn’t the same job Wooden had. It’s playing in a 12k arena, half full and they’re at least the 3rd biggest name in town behind Lakers and Clippers. All games now are on TV but most of UCLAs games are at 11pm on East coast, where majority of 5* kids are. That wasn’t the case in the 60s and early 70s. If Barnes wants that job, good luck.

It’s times like these that we need big money in A D reserve
If we had big money to spare, Waltz is already at UT
If we had big money to spare, we wouldn’t sweat Barnes’ contract

We have the $. On Barnes, it’s whether he wants to leave or not.

It's all speculation, and mine is that he would chase the paper. I would also speculate that if these reports are accurate, UCLA understands the financial implications.

Not like a UT coach has ever bolted for a Cali school so nothing to worry about here...

I’m college hoops, 1-2 guys can make a team good and borderline great. Winning fixes culture issues.

This isn’t hard to comprehend.
Apparently it is hard to comprehend, because it isn't true, yet you seem totally convinced by it.

I wanna throw up every time someone posts this chit about throwing the bank at a coach or backing up the brinks truck.

How about they give him a stack of money a show pony can’t jump over?

Just kidding. I agree that throwing money at a problem just gives you a more expensive problem.

You don’t have to get the majority of 5 star kids. There are plenty in LA and California as it is.
