Rick Barnes got his butt shown to him by Wright.

we have a few growing pains, but we will improve. Even after having our tails handed to us in the second half we cut it to 3 and had a chance. They never quit. It looked to me like Nova picked up their D in the second half and took us out of our game. Good teams will do that to you but we were still in the game at the end.

Isn't it funny how at the same time that Nova turned up the intensity the refs stopped calling a close game? Even funnier that it happened when practically Villanova's entire lineup was in or about to be in foul trouble. It must be sweet to be an NCAA Blue Blood.

Bowden especially didn't respond to the challenge. He's still at the beginning of his sophomore year though.

I hate to single any kid out when they're all busting their rear ends right now, but I agree about Bowden. Kid's a mystery to me...at times he looks like the second coming of Jujuan Smith, but other times the speed of the game looks a bit ahead of him.

Ziti...I know you're a Bowden fan...what are your thoughts on him at this point in the season?

Get so tired of hearing the whining about the recruiting. Rome wasn't built overnight. As Barnes teams begin getting more and more competitive, the recruiting will begin getting better. It is not like he inherited a final 4 team or anything. He has the players playing with all they have got. Didn't get to watch the game, but, with the updates and what I have heard, the team never gave up. Look forward to this season and the future of UT Basketball.

Played great in first half. Not so great in the 2nd.

Not much different than the rest of the team.

Needs to be more aggressive on offense.

some people just enjoy being negative, it's not the bball team that's the problem, it's something personal with the complainers. it's an outlet. bless their souls...i can be hired by the hour if you need any counseling btw.

Maybe we should have hired you as coach.

Wth? So you think Rick DID manage his team well the first 10 minutes of the second half, when we committed turnover after lazy turnover, while seeing our 12 point halftime lead turn into a 15 point deficit?

I think Barnes is doing a great job with this team, love how he has them playing so far. I think he’s assembled a talented group of kids who play hard and have bought into his style of play and what he’s selling. But it’s also fair to say that his team didn’t respond appropriately, at all, to Villanova’s increase in intensity to start the second half and a big part of the blake has to be laid at Barnes’ feet....he’s the guy in charge, that’s the way it works.

Btw, nice snarky, juvenile comment that has nothing to do with anything.

OP started hitting Thanksgiving scotch a little to early lol. Vols fought hard and never gave up! I'd love a rematch of this game in the tourney. Gonna be a good season. Go vols!!

OP also washed down bad giblets before posting. Dumb thread.

Villanova has a veteran ball club and is usually in the Sweet 16 to Elite 8 mix every season.

UT played great in the first half and Villanova was able to solve the UT full court pressure defense in the second half plus they were able to make 95 percent of their free throw attempts.

This game will give UT confidence for the rest of the season and the team will learn from the loss.

I can’t believe Rick didn’t change our offense within the first minute of the second half.

Our “PGs” would dribble down, penetrate and then look to pass instead of shoot. Then the turnover. Then another turnover. Another turnover. Another. They were all the same play too. Turn the ball over at half court situation, easy bucket or foul for Villanova.

What did we have 12 turnovers in the second half?

I won’t even mention not getting the ball to Williams. That one was super obvious.

I love this team and I think Barnes is a good coach. Jay Wright had us pegged today after watching tape last night. That is why he is a top tier coach.

This team is in trouble if Daniels and Darrington can’t look to score more.

We are un-ranked and lost by less than 10 to the #5 team in the country. We will be a great team later in the season!

Anxious to see what we do in the third game in three days.

Thanks John Wooden, I am sure you could have taken a bunch of 2-3 stars and beaten a top 5 team. The fact they almost beat them speaks volumes about Barnes’ coaching ability

Geeze guys...we beat a top 20 team yesterday and took a top 5 team to the wire today.

Quit *****ing and enjoy the fact that we have a pretty good ball club.

Amen! Geez I think we'll be much better than most have predicted. Relax guys...butch Jones is gone..get out of that "let's bash the coach and team" mode.

Third game in a row coming up with NC ST. Will we show the toughness that Barnes requires and overcome any fatigue or mental hangover from yesterday? I think this is a big game for the early season Vols. Could really send a message and improve their swagger with a win today.
