Rick Barnes: Estrella seems fine, but we’ll see

Rumor I was told was back for SEC play.. They are not rushing it.
I had a pretty serious bone bruise on my shin from soccer back in the day, it took over a month to be ready to play.

Then again I was never the athlete that he is and I didn’t have a full time rehab staff (though I did go to a PT clinic associated with UT).

There’s probably a doctor on here who can express the danger of compartment syndrome from a contusion on the lower leg. That’s what my doctors were trying to prevent and I imagine his are thinking something similar.
 
Getting him back by SEC is great. But I’m not gonna lie, the 5 games starting with Rutgers are resume building games. We really need to get a couple of them. If we don’t, our room for error in SEC will be pretty slim. So yes, it’s great to get him back but man this is bad timing also.
 
For Kiddie or any other legit Dr on here, is there anything that a bone bruise can lead to if he starts playing too soon or is it strictly when the pain subsides he’s good to go?

Not a doctor and don’t play one on TV, but the thing you always see in sports is playing injured leading to a different injury because of overloading another body part.

Example, in basketball, injured calf will commonly lead to Achilles injuries etc..
 
Mike Wilson saying not definite but could be 2-3 weeks. Honestly, best case as it puts him back just before or after Louisville and with enough tune up time for SEC. If his time off spurs Carey and Brown to step up against some super tough competition, it would be a big silver lining and make us that much stronger going forward. Phew!
I hope this is right. Could be a blessing in disguise: keeps him safe during pre-SEC games, and gives other guys a chance to shine.

Had similar injury on the pitch. Slide tackled a dude from behind and he jumped and came straight down below my knee and his cleats just skated down my shin under my guards. It was just a bone contusion but it hurt worse than any other bone break I've had on my upper body...not even close.

Minor contusions rarely lead to any complications, and I clear kids to play as soon as the pain allows. Rarely, severe bone contusions could become pathological fractures if pushed too soon or avascular necrosis if there is enough clotted blood to interrupt blood flow, but that's extremely uncommon.
