I'm a Christian and I have no problem investigating the job market to ensure that I am being paid market rate or to see if there are better opportunities for me and my family.

So he's not allowed to be interested in the premiere job in college basketball? You're certainly judging him like a terrible Christian.

Reasonable minds can debate whether Barnes will ever live up the contract but I do not blame Barnes for using the leverage that he had to secure the most $$$. After watching the football team quit the final 2 games of the 2018 season, Barnes probably saw what the fans who did have blinders on (that Fulmer hired the wrong, cheap football coach and that Fulmer needed a "win") and he used that leverage plus the UCLA opening to secure top dollar. Not his fault our admin was a clusterF.

At least Pearl does have a winning percentage in the NCAA Tournament with 15 wins in 10 appearances while Barnes has a losing percentage of 22 wins to 23 falls on his face.

Barnes is a good regular season coach but the last few years here in my opinion he has NOT gotten the most out of his team.. The best sign of a good or great coach is he gets the most out of his team and his most recent teams outside of grants last year have NOT lived up to expectations IMO.
I think like some other older coaches the game has or is passing him by.... good recruiter that can coach but seems like the later in the season the more predictable and he has NOT changed with the game... can we get a better coach I don't know but the sEC is the best league in basketball now so if we let him go or he leaves ... the grass is not always greener

Pearl had 6 NCAAT appearances while the coach at UT, he was 8-6, good for 57%.

Barnes currently has 3 NCAAT appearances at UT, and is 3-3, good for 50%.

Looking like we’ll make it this year, so 4 NCAAT appearances, and if we make a S16 his record becomes 5-4 which is good for 56%, pretty much identical to Pearl’s.

If Barnes somehow makes an Elite 8 idk what new argument Pearl fans will reach for because the stats will say that Barnes is just as good if not better than Pearl in the NCAAT while at Tennessee.

And I'll be one when you're unable to control your bowels any more. Still doesn't mean you're not miserable as a Vol fan. Just reading your posts shows you'd be happier following Pearl than you are following Tennessee. Just go do that.

I want to see us succeed, but the bottom line is that Barnes can't get it done. Never has and never will. There's a reason he's not in Texas anymore.

I don't know that I would ever want Pearl back, but he's a proven winner. The smoke from Louisville further validates that point, as does his performance at Auburn. Regarding "cheating", all of them are dirty, some just don't get caught.

Except the “can’t get it done” part…not sure what the definition of getting it done is, but apparently if Barnes isn’t getting it done then neither is about 99% of CBB coaches.

Unfortunately the powers that be are satisfied with just makin the Dance every season. Expecting more is an unpopular opinion or stance to take with these guys. Loser mentality, but what can ya say?

Barnes has done more than “just makin the dance” 67% of NCAA trips at UT, exact same % as Pearl who was knocked out 1st game 2/6 times.

For clarity, I'm specifically referring to a winning track record. Barnes is 65% to Pearl's 72%. In my opinion, a very significant difference, among other factors. When was the last time Barnes won a major tournament?

Frankly, I don't think Barnes is a terrible coach. In fact I feel like he's quite good, but I also don't believe he will ever take us "all the way." Such is life.

You say “he has not changed with the game” then how do you account for the change this season away from the mid range game to the 3 point line?

Pearl’s 6 years at Tennessee:
145-61 for 70%

Barnes last 6 years at Tennessee, including this year:
122-59 for 67%

You add in the extra garbage OOC games we missed last year due to COVID and their winning % are almost identical over 6 year span regular season.

I'm not evaluating a limited scope. I'm looking at the body of work in its entirety. If the future with Barnes was so promising, why would Texas fire him? Certainly he hasn't finished the job for us too.

Don't get me wrong, I feel that Barnes is a good coach, but I have no confidence that he will ever win the NCAA tournament for us, which is my ultimate hope. With the football program in shambles and a pale shadow of past glory, I hang my hat on the prospect of us bringing another national title home through basketball.

Well if you’re talking entirely, Barnes has made the NCAAT 79% of the years he’s been a head coach at the D1 level, Pearl is below him at 67% of the time as a D1 coach.
