I find it pretty lame that most of the reporters are all over Kiffin and his minor violations. Last year, Coach Richt had 17+ minor recruiting violations but was never in the news for any of them. I think the media is all over Kiffin's every single move since he is the new head coach in 17 yrs. at a high profile CFB program. What is your guys take on this?

The whole 17+ violations are not accurate for Richt. He has between 5-7 during that time if my information is correct. The 17 was the entire athletic department of UGA. Please feel free to refute what I have just posted with some type of link to your information that isn't posted on an internet message board.

Already has been discussed ....

FYI: Those 17+ violations were for UGA's entire athletic program... not just the football team

He is a big name in football being the son of Monte. He is at a big program at Tennessee. Plus he called the attention to his self with calling UM a cheater. In the end its just good coverage in the off season and thats it.

They singled out Kiffin for violations b/c he was easy to pick on at the time w/ the CUM incident and taking a shots at other schools. Right now people from rival schools love to hate Kiffin, so anything negative about him someone is going to make a story out of it.

I am not going to get upset with the media for jumping all over kiffin and not richt.

richt didnt accuse anyone of cheating and then brake multiple violations himself.

kiffin wanted the spotlight and now he has it. fulmer also had many minor recruiting violations.

and for the record i like kiffin and liked that he challanged the gators.

My thoughts exactly. The media is talking about us in a time of year when they never have before. This publicity, whether in some opinions is good or bad, puts Tennessee back on the map and in the eyes of future recruits. I love it.

Yes those were the entire athletic dept. So to me CLK is doing just fine if a upstanding and quality coach like Mark Richt has 5-7 violations then for what it has done for the moral of the vol fans and players it is worth it. I really think that was the plan all along. CLK knew the emotion that the VN had he just needed to stir it abit.

You are correct but i still would like to address the point that nobody wants to talk about it because of Mark Richt's good guy persona. There is some truth to that.

No there isn't. It's common knowledge in the recruiting world that schools self-report minor/secondary violations all the time. I would be willing to bet that Spurrier has the most in the past 3 years and you don't see anything of that. It's all understood, but if Kiffin/UT had not allowed the media at the recruiting celebrations nothing would have ever been said about it. It all really doesn't matter anyway because every school has them and that will never end.

I am aware of the frequency of self reported secondary violations.

Any clue where we can get numbers on violations to test this idea?

UT has always been blown up when it comes to anything negative. ESPN and all of the media kool aid drinkers have jumped on wagon. Even our our KNS even loves to report the bad. If it wasn't for bad news the last several years, UT would not have had any press coverage at all. It just like the war in Iraq and Afganistan(God protect the soldiers). You will never hear of the good going on. I had a buddy over there that all the guys wanted during football season was their team hats. They spoke of all the excitement that they get from ribbing each other. They also tell you about all the good going on. It's the media that will take the news of a cat farting and produce headlines that it killed a three year old kid. Never positive news. I was just telling my wife the other night how this site was cool. You get with some other people (not bammers) and have positve discussions. Even the ROD Wilks thing is fun. I have quit reading negative news and reading this all the time. Hell, thats enough of my rambling.
