Richmond Suspended for Opener

Here's the deal about losing linemen:

You lose a QB, you're down to your second-best QB.
You lose a RB, you're down to your second-best RB.
You lose your best receiver, you still have your 2nd-, 3rd, and 4th-best receivers available.
You lose a DE, you're down to the 3rd-best DE.

But if you lose two linemen like we have, you're down to your 6th- and 7th-best linemen to step up.

That's a big drop-off, whether you'd like to admit it or not.

Someone please please please answer the question....why was Richmond even listed in the starting lineup? What has he done to justify starting him before suspension?

The best thing about this news is that @#$# poster Bob Mueller didn't post it. Remember that guy??? Everything he posted was bad news, and it was almost always correct. Got to where just seeing his avi made my stomach drop.

one is injured and can't play. another will sit another game. Butch negotiated when they happen which is good on his part.

Nobody seemed to acknowledge this post. Difference between Larry and all the other blowhards on the first 20 pages? LwS actually has sources inside the program. He is one of the posters on thjs board that actually does...and he never speculates. You can take this to the bank. So there are actually 3 players who failed DTs as rumored.

Who are the other 2 brother???

Not as big of a loss as Kirkland at MLB. Richmond has done nothing in his time here that has impressed me other than his 4/5 star rating. Shouldn't be too hard to replace by moving players around on the O line.sad to say but Losing Kirkland will cost us several games this year.

I think you missed my entire point.

No I completely understand what you were trying to point out, however, since you start 5 O linemen of course you are going to your 6th one if someone goes down. You don't start 5 LB's or 5 RB's so going to # 2 on the depth chart may not seem like a big deal until you have to start a former walk on that had zero SEC scholarship offers.

Only if you assume you lost your 1st-best lineman.

If you lose your 5th-best and get your 6th-best in his place, you're pretty much ok.

I'm not so sure Richmond-to-Kendrick is much of a step down at all. One supposedly has more raw talent (we haven't seen it yet), the other has a lot more experience. Might be a near-wash. 5th to 6th, or something like.

Seems to me that going from your #1 QB to #2 QB could be a huge drop off. Maybe not currently here at UT, but in most programs across the country, that could be devastating

At lease we do actually suspend the kids. No chance in hell Saban would've suspended a kid for a failed drive g test. He won't suspend a kid for being arrested for drugs with a stolen weapon on him. Lol

Yeah, certainly a more significant emotional event than going from your #5 to #6 lineman.

To know that, you would have to have access to practices, or you would have to be able to fly around like Tinkerbell. I can only assume he was competing while nobody was looking.

If any else were in trouble, I guess they must have done what they needed to do to get clear. At least he didn't say he got arrested.

There are 3 suspended, from incident about 2 weeks ago. All for Mondays game. Failed drug test will have Butch in a big mad mode

Richmond didn't do anything last year to make me care about this

He got blown up quite a bit early to mid-season. But he seemed to get his "sea legs" late in the year against the admittedly weaker teams. He suffers from Fivestaristis, a condition where the fanbase expects him to be nothing short of NFL HoF quality on game #1, due to an educated guess by one recruiting business. Remember, he was a Freshman.

I have high expectations (no pun intended) for DR, this year and next. He develops into a special player IMO.

That's one way to look at it. Another is that if you're given about 80,000 dollars a year in education, food, housing and other benefits, you do whatever the F they tell you to. But I agree totally that it should be legalized.

Players still couldnt use weed, its not legal for a NCAA division 1 program. They have to follow NCAA rules

I'm sure you never made a mistake when you were in college. The punishment is 100000000+ times harsher than the crime. And this attitude is what is keeping it illegal and holding back progress for our country and the UTAD.

NCAA RULES apply no matter what is legal or illegal, weed is not permitted in division 1 football, no matter state laws. UTAD has no say on those rules.

Oh boo freakin' hoo.

They know the rules, they follow them, they know they will get tested. If not for yourself, for the team. Otherwise you are being a selfish a-hole. I think that's the more important point, ergo, the reason for the suspension.
