"Recruiting is a relationship business. We have tremendous relationships with all the high school coaches here in this great city. Memphis is a big part of our recruiting efforts," Jones says. "It's about continuing to grow the relationships.

"Now you have an individual coming in like Drew Richmond who can really speak about how special Tennessee is, and being able to get individuals up on your campus. Not just prospective student-athletes but high school coaches as well...We're fortunate and we're very excited to have Drew Richmond. He'll be joining us here in a couple of weeks, and we're excited to get him going."

Stripped of its stretch-run drama and layers peeled, Richmond's impending arrival at UT boils down to his uncanny relationship with Jones....

We have been burned by so many great Memphis players it's not even funny. Rick Barnes needs to build a pipeline into Memphis as well.

"Coach Jones has got that personality where people think he's cocky because he's going to dress nice."

The amount of great players from Memphis is greatly exaggerated. How have we got burned?

Okay, maybe not a ton of truly great players, but Memphis produces high end D1 talent every year, in every sport. More times than not those prospects that are actually being recruited by UT sign somewhere else. We get burned every time that happens considering Memphis is a part of the great state of Tennessee and all.

I'm aware there are a few SEC campuses closer to Memphis than UT's is, but still, Memphis is in Tennessee. It sure doesn't really feel that way most of the time though.

I know a lot of people's eyes degenerate. Richmond may be able to get lasic (sp) done once they slow down in deterioration. Or maybe he can have a lens on his helmet? I know that players who have glasses like he does can have that shield/lense on their head gear if I am not mistaken. I would hate for there to be a fumble on the ground and him not see it.

Glad we're back in Memphis they've got a lot to offer. Mr. Richmond may be the biggest recruit of this class . In rebuilding our ties in Memphis now and future.

Memphis is overhyped, outside basketball, but the exposure is important. You can't lose out on top players, even if it's only 2-3 players every 4-5 years, simply because Memphis isn't a powerhouse for producing SEC football players regularly. Memphis produces some talent, and that talent needs as much positive UT exposure as we can give them due to the distance between Memphis and Knoxville.

Penny Hardaway, that's how? We should have gotten him and he would have repped us those 4 years he played in Orlando before he got busted up.
