I've got a newborn so I had some "quality" thinking time about 4-6 am this morning and started thinking about this hire....

Let's say back in 06 when Saban took the coaching job at Bama that instead heading to Ruston to become a head coach that Dooley instead went with Saban to Bama. I can't help but believe that the media and everyone else would be viewing this guy as one of the brightest young up-an-coming coaches in the game right now, drooling over his coaching pedigree and all-in-all would be applauding this hire (if he were still available).

I'm not saying the guy is going to be a success. He may not win 10 games in three years for all I know, but as for now I think too many people have gotten caught up in it not being a sexy hire when change a couple of facts and it would be. It doesn't change the type or quality of coach he is either way.

Just a thought I had this morning. Maybe it's just a cause of lack of sleep.

Well it's actually a point he made during his press conference so you're pretty dead on with that thought. Lack of sleep agrees with you in this situation :)

Yeah the entire country would know who he is if he had stayed with Saban, if he had we might not have him right now...

I totally agree with the first post.

Excellent post.

Dooley will do amazing things at UT. He will no longer have to do two jobs like a La Tech and will never ever need to ask for anything from the school b/c they already have it all. NO MORE MONEY TROUBLE like all small school programs have.

A hidden gem found in DOOLEY.

I have been saying this since yesterday afternoon.
I like the fact that he did not follow CNS and take the easy way out.
What we have here is a Nick Jr.

If he would of went with Saban to Tuscaloosa .I think Southern Cal would of came calling and we would of been stuck with Kiffin.

Hey i've got a newborn also. She was born Sunday...I was thinking this morning Dooley would have some success during his first couple of years and be in LSU or Georgia by the end of 2012......I just can't see how a georgia fan could ever give his heart to Tennessee. I know I could not coach Florida or Georgia or LSU or Bama....ect. My morals wouldn't allow it!!! I hope he falls in love with Tennesse and becomes the best coach we have ever had, but I just don't think he will be here long enough to turn it around.

Dont worry his Mike Hamilton will make sure we keep him...........and he will make sure his contract is very tight with no wiggle room to get out.........just like he did with Kiffin. This is a no win for us.....if he is brilliant and does well here he ends up at Georgia. I dont see him going anywhere else. We are positioning our program as a stepping stone program.

It's easy.... Spend 5 minutes in Neyland on a football Saturday vs. 5 minutes at Sanford and you'll see the difference immediately! BTW.... Who said he was an uga fan anyway.....

Congrats! He was born Wednesday. At least I had something to keep me occupied in the hospital in the down time.

Luckily, the other coach had already boarded a plane before he got here.

Guys, he chose to walk on at Virginia rather than play under his dad at UGA. He wants to make his own legacy. He can't do that at UGA.

That could be a fairly valid argument, except for the fact that instead of staying with Saban, he already went to La Tech and proved he couldn't even win in the WAC. Trust me, no one will be happier to be wrong about this guy that me, but he doesn't seem to have any of signs that point to any sort of success at the SEC level.

Maybe.

Biggest thing he needs to do now for me (esp w/Kippy's departure) is get a solid recruiting coordinator in here. A less that stellar coach can overcome a lot if he's smart enough to put good staff around him. He'll definitely have more $$$$ here to do that than he had before.
