on ESPNU. Forgot how much help Oklahoma got from the referee's to win the game. It seems like almost every missed or bad call went their way.

The pass interference call and then the non called false start then the holding on the ko return absolutely drove me crazy

I too, watched the game, one more time. Regarding bad calls, we dodged a fumble call that would have been a TD, they didn't all go OK's way, there were just far to many. Blowing the 17 point lead, still boggles the mind, and as was pointed out during this game's replay, the biggest lead UT ever had against a team they've lost to. This is not a team record I'm real proud of! I'm sure the OK fans were happy to watch it again, I just couldn't-not watch it, knowing we lost it, I wasn't even able to enjoy the 17 point lead.

There were plenty of bad calls all around. It shouldn't have mattered. Penalties & conversions on 3rd down killed us.

Speaking of rewatching..just watched the replay of the 98 Florida game where Phil played it conservative the whole game and pushed the game to overtime with 1:56 left. The announcer talked about his conservative style. Funny how it's ok then but not when Butch coaches with the same style. How quickly we forget

Phil was a riverboat gambler compared to butch. He's literally the most conservative coach I've ever seen at any level of football.
It'll ultimately end up costing him his job here and his career. Go look at successful coaches. None of them are conservative. Not in college. Not in the nfl. All great coaches are aggressive minded. Even Saban. He's way more gutsy than he gets credit for. You'll never see him kick a fg from the half yard line. Ever

Actually Saban kicked a field goal against Tennessee in a similar situation to go up by 3.

You are right. Saban gets a free pass way too often. You can do that when the media is afraid of you and you have five number one recruiting classes in a row. No one questions his loss to OK, losing a 21 point lead to Auburn, going vanilla against OSU, the kick six, and his decision to not start Coker against Ole Miss. Most people don't even remember that. Bringing in Kiffin cost him at least one NC. Numbers have been up, but Bama got away from what they do the best. Pound the rock. Henry was a beast against OK, but only had ten or eleven carries. I am tired of everybody kissing Saban's butt. ESPECIALLY when it's UT fans. I am sure that Bama will kick the crap out of Michigan State. That's why the committee paired them up. They couldn't have Bama get beat in the first game like they did last year. OK would have given Bama fits, and everybody knows it.

Agree. I thought Phil was conservative until Butch came along. I appreciate the things CBJ has done here but he needs to learn to nut up when that time comes. Hell, CPF was slinging it with a true frosh QB on 4th and 8 from the 50 with 5mins left against UF in 2004.

This is just your opinion and has no basis in truth what so ever.

We could have won had we been able to tackle the QB, he got way too many times and made too many good plays to keep them in the game late.

This (and several other scrambling QB's that, as I unfortunately remember, we just simply couldn't quite contain -- not because of lack of effort or will or skill, but just because/being tired/on the field too long/too thin at back-up/whichever, dang it -- in several key drives of several games this year) reminded me of an intriguing quote I read the other day, from Bob Welton, which I just copied from another thread (last sentence):

"He's (Player X) been a big reason... you go back to that first year Doug, three years ago, we just could not stop a running quarterback. We didn't have "that athlete" and the last two years, since we went and got him, and when he's been on the field in nickel situations, he's done a heck of a job. I have a hard time remembering a quarterback really hurting us too much with his feet with (Player X) in the game."

These weren't "running" qb's necessarily, but (unfortunately) we simply couldn't take them down off their feet in the backfield/ couldn't stop them from picking up positive yardage with their qb feet, on a few crucial drives.

I forgot how we completely dominated the game for three and a half quarters! I quit watching in the fourth quarter

There were some bad calls (that PI with both players basically in the second row of the South end zone seats being the worst) but the game turned when Maggitt went down. All those great plays Mayfield made to win the game were him rolling right and breaking contain. Cory Vereen wasn't the player that night he's become. Since Cory came on in the Bama game the Vol D has significantly improved. Had Maggitt stayed healthy we would have won that game going away. JMHO

What a coincidence! I too enjoy beating myself over the head with a stick!

Merry Christmas everybody!!!

While Butch might be conservative I've seen him go for it on big 4th downs. Anyone forget all the 4th downs against UGA a couple of years ago? This year against UGA? Jump pass against UF by Kamara? Fake FG against MIZZ last year that went for a TD?

That's just off the top of my head. Terrible argument by dude earlier.
