I’ll keep this short and sweet:

1) The breaks just DID NOT go our way

This is in no way meant to excuse losing to them, but this had a 2016 “App State game” feel to it.

-Their first TD we gave them a tiny field
-Twice we stopped them on third and medium/long, once Nigel was given a terrible PI call, once we were too dumb to call the timeout when we had too many men on the field. They scored on both drives
-The play where their QB rushed for a 20’ish yard TD could have been stopped, but two of our DB’s collided with each other.
-Dom beat his defender when JG threw the long completion to him, it was a walk-in from there, except Dom tripped over his own feet and fell out of bounds.

Basically whatever could have gone wrong this game, very much did. Had the breaks not gone their way ALL DAY LONG, we probably win this game somewhere in the ballpark of 30-7 or 24-13.

2) The line play/QB difference:

The line play (both sides) wasn’t as miserable as everyone wants to make it out to be. We didn’t play great on either line, but it wasn’t disastrous. The truth is, their QB was better than our QB. Their QB was quick, confident, and decisive. JG was a safe-route throwing machine. I won’t bore you all by naming specific plays, but if you go watch again you’ll see how many times he missed a wide open receiver and checked down instead. In fact, don’t watch, it will irritate you.

3. Warren Burrell got picked on:

Sorry CJP, not impressed with your golden boy. We badly missed Bryce out there today. WB was getting beat like he stole something.

4. Jennings was open all day on the crossing route:

JG didn’t see him because he was too busy looking for his safety valve.

It was a bad game, everyone. Stay positive. Aside from #1, all of these things can be corrected/improved on. The popular thing right now is to say “this was no fluke”, it was a fluke. The breaks went their way, quite one-sidedly actually. Combine that with some poor play and poor decision making, and you’re losing to any team at any level.

See Maxims 1-3 when talking breaks. When they are going against you, it's probably your fault, play harder. Want the breaks to go for you, make them.

The game was a complete disaster. There were no good things in it. They made the breaks go their way. They put on more steam. They physically manhandled our team. Our team couldn't make a break because they couldn't get out of their own way. Being lined up wrong, out of position, missing tackles, looking lost, no field awareness, no heart, no pride and no conditioning.

You lose me at saying the lines werent as bad as it seemed. The dline was attrocuious beyond belief dude. Don't know what to tell you. They got pressure ONE play the entire game pretty much. Other than that, they did absolutely nothing.

It was Georgia State. Even if they had every break in the game, we should have still won this game easily. The fact that we were embarrassed and it looked like the team had no heart should be the takeaways here.

Unless there is a radical attitude transformation, it does not bode well for the future.

While i have no inside info i believe JJ is a last resort throw for JG. Although Saturday he found him 9 times, their time on the files together would have been far more productive if JG would get the ball to him more often. Not sure if they simply dont like each other but JJ getting open and JG not throwing to him was not anomaly happening only this past weekend.

And by radical attitude transformation I mean start with a QB change

Any offensive cord worth his title knows to get the ball in the hands of his playmakers. Our playmakers are wide receivers........................but Chaney had rather throw 3 yard passes to the running backs.........go figure. Yall can praise Chaney all night and day but I think he sucks now and when we had him before !!!!! Ryan Leaf even made mention of this the other night on national tv..............said Tenn had some of the best receivers in the nation and Chaney did not even begin to utilize them.

I agree with some of that. I’ve just believed for so long and I’m tired. Call it We’re getting better fatigue, I guess. I believed in Pruitt and this team. I hope they pull this out of the ditch and have a good year, I just can’t beieve anymore. I’m on here trying to find somebody with something to make me believe, something to even just make me hope. It’s just not there. Im not a fair weather fan and never have been, but this has killed my orange soul.

Chaney is so predictable and old school...............1947 style ! Entirely too conservative and his offense is severely outdated. The reason Georgia fans were thrilled when he came to us. The only thing I can say about Chaney is that he beats what we had last year. ............I still believe Pruitt can be a good coach but he sure screwed up when he hired Chaney!!!!!!!!!!!! And futhermore JG is NOT an SEC caliber quarterback. I say this even if he were to win the Heisman Trophy.

If we look this way to BYU, I hope they start making changes to some position players. Not naming names, but you know, those ones that should be leading the team but aren't. I'm hoping this was game one jitters, everything went against us type of things. But we've seen this movie before.

Cmon man - most every long pass play has a check down option. Chaney wasn’t directing the QB to check down on all those short throws.

At first glance, I felt as though this team would be furious and embarrassed at losing to GSU. After seeing the Jordan Murphy tweet, I think you are probably correct. Coaches can't put pride or desire into a kid. Suspect we have more than a few who really don't care what happens on game day.

The truth of the matter is that Georgia State was much more physical and just whipped the shat out of the bigger Tennessee.......got to give Ga State credit they won the street fight and the bigger Vols laid down in the 4th quarter as they often do

This is a great post and how I feel about the game. I could tell the breaks aren’t going our way. But most importantly I could tell that not a single coach or player seemed to do anything about it. Beating a dead horse I know. I just believe it is a fluke, we severely underestimated them, and they made us pay. We just didn’t believe it would actually end that way. If BYU is any, and I mean , any resemblance to GA state then the “ this isn’t a fluke” talk begins to have legitimacy. Not saying we are a great team but this is surely a fluke. Because if not, this is about to get worse than any of us ever thought.

The BYU game will give us lots of answers. Appears to be lots of internal problems on this team. Pruitt is the one making the 4 mill per year. This team is for him to control or lose..............BYU game could very well be his telling future.

The offense made mistakes, but not enough to lose to GAST. This loss lies squarely on the DL which got blown out the entire second half. Is it lack of talent? Of course not. Is it bad coaching? We have a well respected coaching staff. It has to come down to one of two things, either effort, or bad scheme. If it was effort, the embarrassment of last Saturday should self correct that and things will be fine going forward. If it is bad scheme, we will see this continue for the rest of the season.

Can you give an example of a play where guy was open and missed? Time and quarter where I can find it.

Havent rewatched yet but will soon and want to know what plays you saw full field and guys were missed. It seems hard sometimes bc the tv cuts off half the field and im never quite sure. Tia

It’s all because no one trusts JG for anything else. Why they won’t replace him is lost on me....

Had we not had 3 turnovers and I think a turnover on downs we would have won.

Not sure how we can stay positive this year with the same QB playing the same as last year and the coaching made absolutely no adjustments this game.

However, I’ll be watching and hoping this Saturday, waiting for a win.
