Revving up the Hype Machine: Mass Effect 2

yeah, i destroyed both the geth base and the collector's. i never did fully trust cerberus so it wasn't an insanely hard choice for me

I finished my first playthrough a couple nights ago and lost Zaeed and Jack, the only two who weren't loyal to me. I saved Dr Chackwas but lost the others. I read that you can save them all if you rescue them right away instead of doing missions.

Duckman, were most of your squadmates loyal to you? If they were and still died then you must've picked wrong ones to do certain tasks in the final mission or just didn't upgrade your ship.

IPorange, you should try the sniper rifle using the infiltrator's cloak ability. Just awesome. Been using the vanguard in my 2nd playthrough and the shotgun is seriously worthless along with the biotic charge. But being the a**hole Shepard with red eyes makes up for it.

And saw on another site that there's more free DLC coming to the cerberus network in two weeks. May be that cerberus armor or something.

It seems like either way, one could regret their choice in ME3. From a standpoint of fighting the reapers, the base could have been invaluable. From a standpoint of galactic balance, it would be just awful. Imagine a faction (Cerberus) that has a fleet of reaper-like ships. But also, there is the obvious danger of not being able to fully control the technology in the first place, and end up HELPING the reapers. In the end, I think destroying it is the right call.

The Illusive Man is set up perfectly to be a villain in the third ME.

What I wonder is, what ever happened to the Shadow Broker? I assume that will be one of the DLC's, and heavily involve Liara.

One of my reflective criticisms in the game would have to be the total removal of the planet-side exploration in the Mako. While tedious sometimes, leaving a little of that in would have been fun. Judging from the concept art in my Collector's edition, they at least toyed with the idea of having a hover tank that could be deployed at one point. it is possible we will see that in the third one (which is already being made.)

Ya, my whole crew was alive when I got to the last base. My mistake was not sending an escort with them. Dumb, in retrospect but I didn't want to take away from the mission. If you immediately head to the Omega 4 relay and all that, they are all alive.

Duck, if you get your ship fully upgraded before the last mission (new forward cannons, hull plating, and shields), no one will die on the flight in to the base. You'll still get a little banged up, but everyone will be good to go.

If I were you, I would consider replaying the game and trying to save more of your team. You seem to have lost a lot, and that might really take away from your experience in ME3. Just a thought. I understand if you want more of an authentic sequence with your player, though.

Yeah I did a few loyalty quests before leaving so I got to see "someone in my crew I won't name" die when I got there. I sent Zaeed as the escort since I figure he might die and I never used him. The remaining crew with him made it back though.

I'm also gonna do another playthrough to try to save everybody along with a suicide one.

Ya, I thought about doing a true suicide one where i go as soon as I can and have no one loyal and no upgrades, haha.

i think the only ones that weren't loyal to me were miranda and samara. miranda because i took jack's side in the argument and samara because i failed heir loyalty mission. everyone else was loyal.

i lost jack and thane on the ship going in because i didn't have it fully upgraded and i lost grunt at the very end of the biotic shield portion of the mission because i chose samara to protect us and i think her shield gave out at the very end. i never actually saw miranga or samara die on screen but when i got back to the ship after the final mission both weren't anywhere to be seen.

except for samara, i think all my other assignment choices were good. i chose tali for the ducts and garrus for the other squad leader both times.

I am going to pick samara's daughter over her in her loyalty quest, and see what it is like having her on my team. Be interesting to see how that plays out in ME3, too.

going back to this though, i'll probably just keep the datafile for this playthrough for the next game. i might play through this eventually again but my first file will always be the one that's "canon". i just feel like going through and redoing things again to make things go the way you want it kills the authenticity of the series, especially with the ability to import your character and choices. i kind of like the way it ended for me anyway. having only a little more than half my team survive makes it end a little darker, and that's how it should be most of the time in the second part of a trilogy.

You made the right choices. I also used Tali, Garrus and Samara. Weird that Grunt died for you though. It must have been because Samara wasn't loyal. Sucks he had to pay for it but I guess that makes it more interesting.

I saw a guide that listed the correct choices and from what I remember it was:
Tali/Legion in the ducts
Garrus/Miranda/Jacob as squad leader
Samara/Jack as biotic shield

well, finally finished my first play through. I think I completed all side missions as well.

Chose to keep the Geth base/purge the virus, figured I might could use them as an ally next game.

Chose to destroy the collector base b/c I never trusted the illusive man or Cerberus.

Paramour with Tali and was very upset it never showed her face. The only crew member I lost was Thames, he was the only one that was not loyal...I got confused on his loyalty mission.

Great game.

+100, something fishy about him and those eyes of his. I would bet that ME3 will reveal him as to helping the reapers

I would be willing to bet that in the next game he is the main bad guy....teaming up with the Reapers. Im not sure he is human, with those eyes.

Either that or in the next game he dies of lung cancer...I bet he smokes a couple of packs a day.

I agree, he and Cerberus will become villains again in the third game. Maybe with the reapers, maybe not.

For some added fun y'all should take Legion on Tali's loyalty mission. My renegade Shepard does what he wants.

that is hillarious....I missed out on all the fun with legion...he was the last person i picked up..therefor last loyalty mission.

That sounds like a marvelous idea...haha.

Looks like new DLC is coming tomorrow instead of next week. Don't care for the armor since I don't use heavy weapons unless I really need to and you probably won't be able to remove the helmet. The longer-range shotgun should be good though since the ones in the game are worthless.

Tomorrow Mass Effect 2 fans will be able to get the new Cerberus Assault Armor and M-22a Eviscerator Shotgun DLC for free through the Cerberus network. The DLC should be available on both the PC and Xbox 360 at 12:00 PM Mountain Standard Time.

Cerberus Assault Armor

* Cerberus assault armor is designed for shock troops, turn the tide of battle against creatures or
* forces that would decimate normal soldiers.
* Increases heavy weapon ammo capacity by +10%
* Increases shields by +10%
* Increases health by +10%

M-22a Eviscerator Shotgun
The M-22a Eviscerator Shotgun is a longer-range shotgun with armor-piercing loads. This design also violates several intergalactic weapons treaties, so the M-22a is not distributed to militaries.

meh. it sounds ok i guess. i was hoping for an extra mission or something but i guess they can only provide so much for free. i don't really like the idea of simply downloading something to obtain a health boost or extra ammo though. it seems kinda cheap.
