Revving up the Hype Machine: Mass Effect 2

Did you load your guy from ME1 or did you start fresh...Im interested to know who is alive or dead by default if you start fresh.

Loaded my save from ME1. I killed off the dude because I planned on banging the chick, but ended up with the damn alien anyway. Story of my life.

Pretty sure the Krogan default lives, but other than that I don't know. I suspect Ashley is the default survivor, only because in advertisements they show her getting attacked by collector's, and the Alenko guy has never showed up in any previews or hype stuff.

Oh, and you "choose" who you put in charge of the humans on the council, because obviously your save data won't have that because you couldn't save after that. So I don't think there is a "cannon" choice for that.

True. I pretty much did the same thing on ME1 that you did.

I came across last night someone saying that both of the humans are on the council...Udina and whatever the alliance guys name is, so I dont think that decision really mattered.

When they are questioning Sheperd on the way to see the illusive man, about what his decisions were on the last game......I really didnt get what the point of that was....A reminder of what happened maybe?

Think the questions were there for people who didn't play the first one, and to add continuity and a refresher for those of us who did. It felt natural and appropriate, to me. Not sure how they recovered shepard's consciousness, anyway.

Do you feel like you have a handle on the galactic map...seems so massive. I just started playing however.
After playing for a while, I got a handle of it. Your right, the map is HUGE. Once you go through the Omega 4 Relay, you cant come back......at least that is what I think right now, but I could get a surprise:)

Well I ended up getting the Terminus gear from pre ordering the game and let me tell you......That gun is badass.

The armor is pretty good, but I don't like having to rock the helmet all the time. Cant figure out how to remove it.

You have to go to the Captains quarters on the ship and change it in there. If you think that helmet is boss, you will like the helmet that you find on the Krogan planet:)

I just got home, and I should really go straight to bed... fml. I want to play this game so bad, but have had no time. :cray:

Apparently you cant remove the Terminus armors helmet....kinda sucks. Started rocking the regular armor last night.

I think scanning all these planets is going to get pretty old after a while....I have put in about 7 hours and have been dicking around not accomplishing much.

Scanning planets is a must in ME2. That is where you get the elements to upgrade weapons, ship, and prototypes. The first thing that I would recommend you upgrading is the ship scanner, you can do this all in the Tech room on the ship. When you update the scanner, it goes much faster and takes way less time to scan a planet.

I dont think I have the option to update the scanner yet....I have upgraded shields and the guns....and several weapons.

just finished this up earlier tonight. great as expected. what choices has everyone else ended up making so far? here's a few of mine...........

*****POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW******

-Got Tali exiled by not submitting evidence from her father
-Destroyed the abandoned Cerberus facility where Jack was from along with the guy who was wanting to start up the facility again
-Stuck up for Jack when Miranda and her were in an argument on the Normandy. Which I think resulted in me losing Miranda's loyalty
-Destroyed the geth(heretic) base instead of mindwiping them after activating legion
-Gave in to Tali's request and stopped Legion from transmitting files
-Got the Paramour achievement through Jack.....which I didn't mean to happen btw

as for the last mission:
-Got Tali to go threw the air ducts
-Left Garrus in charge of the second team
-Got most of the remaining crew out of danger but didn't send a teammate to escort them back
-Took Garus and Jacob with me for the final battle in the last part of the stage
-Didn't get the achievement for getting your whole team through the last mission. Jack died early on while on the Normandy along with Thane..........and Grunt got taken out later by a swarm while inside the base.
-Destroyed the Collector base instead of salvaging it for future use.

........just a few i could think of off the top of my head.

I thought you didn't have time to even bring your xbox with you, let alone see about advancing the NCAA dynasty...

BUSTED.

I don't blame you for wanting to play ME2, but I don't get why you are so afraid to see about hooking up to xbox live in the dorms.

:lol:that's probably what i get for making that post. it's also one of the reasons i've been steering clear of this thread for most of the week. truth be told it's probably not a big deal, but i'm always overly cautious when it comes to stuff like that, especially since it's my last semester. i was just going by what the RA said, but i'm honestly not sure he knows what he's talking about half the time.i usually don't take my xbox up there with me anyway, but i made an exception this week with mass effect 2 being released.

I just finished it u this morning/early afternoon. Fantastic game. I thought the story was much better this time around, especially with the side missions and loyalty missions. Loved all of the new characters and how the first game affected this current game. I didn't care for the mini-games although it wasn't that big a deal, hate the mining of planets though, way too time consuming. I played as a Sentinel and very much enjoyed all of the new gameplay changes. This really was a fantastic game and very deserving of all the hype, I plan on doing a few more playthroughs. I was full Paragon this play through, I plan on doing another game to get to Level 30, a playthrough as Vanguard and Solider. I also want to do a Renegade female Shepard playthrough. I'm looking forward to seeing how the game is different for those that didn't import ME1 saves.

*SPOILERS*

Screwed myself out of getting with Miranda by siding with Jack during their argument. Not a big deal really. Disappointed you couldn't get with Samara, Asari>all. Pondered getting with Kelly(chick next to map/message terminal, name might be wrong), but the Collectors took her out sadly. Ended up getting with Tali, not a bad choice overall. Everybody survived the suicide mission for me. Looking forward to more DLC and Mass Effect 3 now.

I beat my first playthrough of Mass effect. Took about 31 hours.

No one warned me there was a HUGE plot hole in the game.

All in all, fantastic. I am now playing through again with my renegade female Shepard. If you have never heard the female voice acting on renegade in ME1 or ME2, you should. She's hilariously *****y.

did you save everyone scribbley? i think i lost nearly half my crew at the end. all i have left with me now is garrus, legion, tali, jacob, joker, mordin, and zaed.

I lost my entire regular crew (Yeoman slutty-pants, Dr. Chockwa et al.), but from my team I only lost Jack. She survived the WHOLE DAMN mission up until the final cut scene after the boss fight.

Not coincidentally, she was the only one I could get loyal. I would have rather made it with Miranda than have her loyalty, so that is what I did.

I will replay through before any DLC comes out, and do things the way I really want to for my main character. Besides the crew and Jack dying, I regret not blowing up the geth station in Legion's quest. I don't want to risk making the main geth faction stronger. Also, I think I want my romantic interest to be Tali for ME3, because there are hints she will be up for admiral if you don't get her exiled (or maybe even if you do, it is impossible to say.)

But right now, I am going to be playing through with my evil lesbian Shepard. That is, assuming I can still do that (early indications from Yeoman Slutty-pants are an emphatic yes).

So, my first Shepard was a soldier, and that was all well and good. I liked the assault rifle and sniper rifle a lot.

My female Shepard is a Vanguard where she has both tech and biotic powers, and I am digging it quite a bit. I didn't like biotic powers in ME1, but they are much more fluid and devastating in ME2. The pistol and machine pistol isn't too bad, either.

And the *****y dialogue and voice acting really is marvelous. The voice acting in this game is top-notch.

Duck:

With your first playthrough, did you destroy the last facility? I struggled with that decision, and ultimately decided to blow it because I couldn't fully trust Cerberus. My evil character is totally going to keep it though.

EDIT: oh, I see that you destroyed it too. Did you struggle with that decision as much as me? I actually struggled with all of the final battle's decisions. But clearly I did ok since I didn't lose anyone except for Jack on the least cutscene (and solely because she wasn't "loyal", apparently.)
