just watched a couple vids on this game and it looks real good...question is..do i really need to play the first one?

to fully enjoy it and know what's going on, I would say yes. The first one is awesome in its own right.

There's tons of Mass Effect "lore" that makes the game very deep - much like reading a book.

Went to preorder the collector's edition today at Gamestop and they have stopped taking them fyi. The CE is only $10 more and I believe well worth it so I told Gamestop to shove it and went and preordered on amazon.

Anyone know what class/character from the first they're gonna use in ME2? I did my very first play through as an infiltrator and it sounds even better in the 2nd with cloaking ability and improved sniping. I may do another play though in the next few weeks so I can better remember what choices I made.

I usually go with just soldier. I have been trying out the one that is a soldier/biotic hybrid, but with the chosen weapon specialization of sniper. Not sure what I will do in the new one.

I think I may start off without loading a save. Then go back later with a save and see what is different.

Im originally a PS3 guy but got an xbox from the wife for Christmas. I immediately went an picked up mass effect.

Almost through it now and its one of the best games I've played.

Did anyone else have issues with the autosave not doing a very good job....I will play for about 30 mins and die and will have to go back a long way to resume.

Maybe they will remedy that.

Yeah the lack of autosaves really pissed me off, especially at the times when I'd die instantly from a stupid sniper shot. I'm assuming they'll improve it in the 2nd. Dragon Age, a recent game made by bioware, autosaves before almost every tough situation.

Yes, they need more autosaves.

After awhile you get a feel for when to save. Basically, after anything long or tedious, right before moving on to a new area. I just save myself every 15 minutes or so.

won't the class carry over if you play off your old save?

You can change your existing character's class and appearance from what I've heard. But I also have multiple saves with different classes, backgrounds and choices so I'm not sure which one of those I'll use first in the new one.

I went out and got ME 1 again just to warm up for ME2. After playing for a while, I would have to say that this game is one of the best ever made. For it being a couple of years old, it is far and above most games that have come out since. ME2 should be remarkable!

Finished ME 1 last night.....awesomeness.

The end of the game seemed rushed, maybe its just me. I wanted to play some more when it ended....wasn't ready for it.

Im hoping they add some sort of space warfare with ships, I think that would be a great addition.

Nope, that's why this is a welcome new addition although it's just cosmetic and serves little purpose. You can't have a badass character if your armor doesn't match, right?
