Reverse Psychology

Last year it seemed that it was all about recruiting stars and getting players drafted. There was no regard for who we are and what has made the Tennessee football program great. There seemed to be an unspoken assumption that our foundations were weak, and we had to change. Winning was important and we had enough talent and grit to get us a few, but we weren't surprised by the losses, disappointed, certainly, but not surprised. Consequently, at the end of the year, we all looked backwards and said "if only."

This year seems different; there is an embracing of the past traditions while preparing for the future. There is a sense of renewal and some fresh air in the program. At the end of the year, we may have exactly the same record, but I think we'll all be looking foward, saying, "Just wait. . ."

Could not have said it better. Loved reading your response. I agree. Looking forward to this season and all seasons to come. I'm all Vol no matter what the storm brings. GO VOLS!

I think we overachieved a little bit last year.

Not even close. 2009 Vols were a 9-win team.

However, I too am having the "good vibrations" this year. I think 7 - 5 is probably overachieving for this team with this schedule. However, the closer we get to kick-off, the more I feel like this will be a 9-win season. They will be playing with their backs against the wall every game.

Might be sippin' too much of something right now, but I'm feelin' it!

Last year was all (over)-hype. This year does feel more like a solid foundation. Well said!

yes we do play better as underdogs

We should go undefeated this year then. Every meaningful game will have us as an underdog. You'd better perform now that you know the rule, Dooley. ESPN hates us, but what they don't know is that Rod Wilks is forcing them to broadcast subliminal Vol propaganda. All is well.

tennessee will be starting a 250 lb defensive tackle who has had an allergic reaction to the playing field since he has been in school.

it will be a long, long year folks.

Nothing that a regimen of antihistamines, donuts, spam and duct tape can't fix. We'll be fine.

LG, you missed the point. If a) the experts were soooo off in 05, or b) that team underachieved that much, then why can't a) the experts be off this year, or b) we overachieve (to a lesser degree)???

Still bitter his team has never gone undefeated.

Off topic, so I'm sorry, but where would I go to see the part of the vol walk where the band stops and plays the pre-game fight songs. Also what time should I get there?

Fugate will see immediate play on special teams and will see some playing time out of the backfield.

Failing to deliver when you have the goods is hardly evidence that you will when you don't.

if the same POS coaching staff were here that created that situation then i would agree with you. but no one who "underachieved" is anywhere around now. you cant really say this staff will fail to deliver when you havent seen them yet.
thats like saying florida will never go undefeated because they never have. it doesnt make sense. this years team doesnt really have anything to do with - lets say the 2001 team that really failed to deliver. comparison doesnt apply
retarded comment.
