Returning SEC QBs and their comp%

Wow. Look at JG's %'s. He must be awesome! That UT team probably lit up the scoreboards with that kind of offense last year!!

I apologize if not because I was living in an apparent alternate reality where UT's QB's were hot garbage, the offense couldn't score points in 4 straight games, and went 4-8..

No need to be a smartarse about it, just found the stat interesting as a way to further evaluate JG’s play last year. Thought some might see it as a positive for our QB position going into this year....clearly you’re not one of those guys.

May the best QB play. I believe his stats are a little deceiving. I just want to see the Vols win.

What makes them “deceiving”? They weren’t great, nothing over the top. But please remember the circumstances he was playing under/with....lameduck head coach, 1st year OC who’d never coordinated an offense, nor called plays before, bad QB coach who had just been Utah State’s running backs coach ....awful OL, WRs who weren’t necessarily reliable (remember when none of them even ran a route during a flea flicker call vs Bama?), no JJ, poor running game, etc, etc.

Given all that, 62% completions rate, 7.2 yards per attempt, 128 qb rating....all numbers which actually improved in SEC play. The only real stat for JG last year that was “deceiving” were his rushing numbers imo....they were badly skewed due to college football’s practice of including lost yardage from sacks into rushing totals...when you add up his pure rushing totals minus the sack yardage, he ran 25 times for nearly 120 yards iirc

It's deceptive because it refutes his preconceived notion of JG being a talentless spoiled brat, the same reason for most of his detractors they are hung up on the GT antics.

Not many topics on here elicit more vociferous debate than those about Tennessee quarterbacks, past, present and future.

So here you go.....according to Pro Football Focus, there is something called “Adjusted Completion Percentage”. It is defined as a QB’s completion percentage after accounting for dropped passes, throwaways spiked balls, batted passes and passes thrown as the quarterback was hit.

Here are the top 5 returning QBs in the SEC this year and their respective Adjusted Completion Percentages....

1. J. La’Amu (Ole Miss) 76.8%
2. J. Hurts (Alabama) 76.2%
3. J. Stidham (Auburn) 75.3%
4. J. Guarantano (UT) 73.6%
5. J. Fromm (UGA) 72.6%

Aside from noticing that evidently all SEC QBs’ first names appear to begin with the letter “J”, I thought it interesting to see that Guarantano, who at least half VN thinks is horrible and will be easily beaten out by Keller Chryst this summer, is just behind Stidham and just ahead of Fromm on this list.

Discuss....

Jes, that IS interesting...

The people who can't get over JG pouting on the sidelines are the same people who conveniently seem to forget that Dormady quit on the team after he lost his starting job.

Less about GT than just hatin' 4-8 so much they're blaming anyone wearing an orange jersey.

JG is a talented player who throws the ball fairly well. He needs to accelerate his progressions and anticipate better, which ought to happen with experience. He has the potential to be very good. I don't think last year's play by JG or Chryst's play at Stanford is fully indicative of what they will be in this system with this team around them, and because of that, I have no idea at all who is a better player,

It doesn't matter to me even a little bit who starts this year, who is the backup and who never sees the field. At QB, or at any other position. I just want the players that give the team the best chance to win to play, and I have confidence that the current coaching staff will recognize who those players are and run them out there.
