Return of the Fulmerites

I'm speaking as a Vol fan from the Millennial generation. My generation is tired of old white retreads making all of the decisions regarding coaching hires, coaching firings, financial decisions etc. We need a youth movement in all areas of our athletic administration from the BOT down to the waterboy on the team. We are a generation that is used to expressing our valuable opinions on social media and effecting change with those opinions. We do not like or appreciate top down, authoritative decision making from out of touch old white men when it has a huge effect on the world we live in. We as a generation understand the times better than those over age 45 and it is high time that we are given our due in the decision making on the Hill. Not only here but across this country in all areas of social, political, financial and religious areas of society. We are the future and we are a special generation who has arrived at just the right time to move this country and the world in a better direction based on our vision for the future.

Racism and age discrimination at its finest.

Yea right.

We just appointed a guy, that without David Cutcliffe, was useless.

And we gave him a job he has no experience at. Awesome move.

Note in his speech today he said “the direction of the program the last 9 years” or, since his well deserved firing. Way to man up to your own failings there, Phil. He still won’t admit any wrongdoing.

Fulmer took us to the top of college football, he also took us to the bottom. It would be nice to see him at least recognize that.

I’m prepared to be underwhelmed by his choice for coach.

No, he has NEVER taken responsibility for running the program in to the ground. Egos running amuck! Do not expect anything from the good ole boy network worth a crap. I'll gladly eat my words & give the apology if I'm wrong but I wouldn't bet on it. :cray:

Preach.

Not really sure why many were against him being AD in the first place. People make being an AD sound so hard. At a school like UT, you make sure the football program is good. Everything else will take care of itself. Sure you work to help the other sports too, but if football is right, then everything else is a lot easier. And, truthfully no one really cares that much if they’re not, as long as football is winning.

Lol no. Just no

There is no way in hell Fulmer hires anyone that can possibly upstage him much les the guy who replaced him.

I won't be remotely surprised if he brings in Torbush from ETSU and throws Randy Sanders a bone.

If Jimbo has any shred of common sense, he is leaving Randy in Tallahassee.
just shut up. Your BS is old and no longer relevant.

I’ve never been mistaken for a Fulmerite since I joined this board 11 years ago. I loved what Phil had to say. He knows his place now. This could very well be a good thing

Who are you and what have you done with the real volfanbill?

All of it? If you think you can just put the other sports on autopilot if football is in good shape, you’re a special special.

I didn’t say completely ignore them, but most the masses don’t usually get too hot after an AD at TN as long as football is well and good. I don’t remember a lot of heat on Dickey because of basketball during his years and we had plenty of bad years. Only when football was bad did people pile on about other sports. Same with basketball at Ky or NC. It certainly is great when other sports are good too, but a lot less people care about the ADs job when our football team is winning.

Doesn’t mean you focus on football and the rest takes care of itself. Mitch Barnhart is wildly successful at UK because sports have improved across the board at UK. They are now regularly near the top of total athletic program rankings. Welcome to 2017. Hope you have an easy transition from 1995.

lol ok. What have you accomplished to put you in a leadership position ? Who has taken notice of you and your abilities and why would they want to put you in a capacity where you can make decisions affecting the UTAD. What do you bring to the table financially? The perception that many have of your generation is that you haven't accomplished anything yet feel entitled to everything.

Thanks for the laugh though.

One thing about the millennials that bugs me is their inflated view of their significance on life and future.

Do you think we would fire an AD if the football team is winning sec and national titles, no matter how bad the other sports are doing, no they’d be getting raises and extensions. Would Hart have been gone, if Butch won the National title his second or third year, even though many other sports have struggled? I don’t mean, that they would just ignore them and not try at all. I mean that you keep your cash cow healthy, and most are happy with that. The athletic director needs to know at least the number one sport at their school and be good at that. The other areas of their job are much easier when they are.

Speaking for all the old white men that died for this country so that you young pompous idiots can, well, be idiots, go F yourself. My God if we were in a war like your old white men had to face, there would be no America for you to be an idiot in. You have no idea what is out there across our world. Countries like Russia, our old white men, have not forgotten what happened. A studid millinial such as yourself is just beyond clueless and nothing more than an unappreciative, self righteous B!tch!!!!

I have no interest in arguing the merits of our respective generations but I will say this: One of the hallmarks of youthful idealism is its inability to recognize its own narrow field of view. You're not the first generation to be convinced you've figured out all the things your idiot forebears couldn't; you're probably more like the 700th. And in a lot of ways you'll be right (although any generation that doesn't benefit from the previous generations' screw-ups is truly a lost generation).

But, whereas I used to think it sad that the world has a tendency to beat the idealism out of you the longer you stay in it, now I realize that it's more a matter of the inevitable tempering of idealism with the inescapable murkiness of practicality. You just realize the problems are way, way, way more complex than you could have known before you waded through a few decades. Of course, that's the same tired old line every older generation has fed the younger: "You'll understand when you're older!" It's bull**** and it's not, decide how much when you get there.

For now, though, just don't confuse having a lot more information with having more answers. And understand that a day will come when your kids, with whatever label their generation ends up getting, point out how stupid and clueless you Millennials were and you didn't even know it. And they'll be right and they'll be wrong.

Finally, all of the foregoing really amounts to just this: Scotch is my friend. Probably you shouldn't make it yours quite so much.
