Report: Tennessee working on extension, raise for Butch Jones

It's really just become one year agreements with something else put to paper to show to the naive recruits that the coach is not going to leave. No matter what the contract says, the coaches will be fired for below average W-Ls and will be given more the year after exceeding the average.

Hilarious and also sad. Nature of the beast, I suppose.

At least we don't have to pretend the coaches actually have loyalty. ....so we have that going for us. ....which is nice.

But I was told he loves UT and isn't here for the money. He's here to build Championships

I would not extend him until after next season.

I would give more money to buTch and the staff, especially our best recruiters to keep the staff and consistency going at this point.

Extend all contracts and more money after next season based on how much better we are in the WIN department.

We must NOT lose our best recruiters no matter what!!!

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

"Signature win" over a coach that got fired + 5 wins against glorified high school teams to end the regular season = lifetime contract at UT now. Just go join the Sun Belt already.

On the surface, an extension and raise for Jones seems a bit overboard, but in the current climate of big time football business, it's more odd if a coach isn't given an extension and raise often even with only satisfactory performance.

Also 10th in salary before raise and extension, and according to final standings this year we're tied for the 4th best team in the SEC overall. He at least deserves a little bit of a raise.

He was already singed through 2020, stability wasn't an issue.

Sure it is. Les Miles is under contract through 2019, doesn't make his job safe.

Tennessee doing this shows it's still committed to Butch going forward and that our recruits have nothing to worry about with his job security, unlike LSU recruits.

i assume, then, you either want him fired upon the end of the bowl game, or to take any of the other jobs currently available at his earliest convenience?

Loyalty as in turning down a raise?

I think Butch has UT going the right direction. I would like to give him the raise next year, but I also understand on giving it to him now with all those coaching jobs that are openings. To those who don't like it. What was our record before he came?

No matter what the annual compensation and term length is per the written agreement, what's really being negotiated is the exit finances. The buyouts have that part about reducing the severance by compensation received in subsequent coaching positions. That is where the schools need to be firm as they've totally lost control of capping the salary at reasonable levels.

What current opening would be that interested in Butch as of today?

8th or 9th at the start of the season.

Though it helps your argument, this is not true. CBJ is ranked 12th in the sec in pay by USA Today. So as long as he keeps winning pay him.

this is what i was going on...top half is 7th/8th...so i was a little off...sue me. either way i don't have an issue with the raise or extension. so i'm not sure what argument i'm trying to help.

Our norm before butch came I think was 5-7 and 2nd to last in the SEC, so pretty solid lol. People keep forgetting how pathetic we were before butch became our coach, and this ensures that we won't have any turnover in football for a while. That is just the nature of the beast right now!
