I attended the game yesterday and I've seen several mentions of a half empty stadium and all of that, so I'll clear it up. The stadium filled up quickly well before the kickoff. The crowd was buzzing, knowing that LSU and UF were in a fight late in the 4th. The crowd popped huge for every senior when they were announced for senior day. The 1st qtr got started and everyone in the crowd was glued to their phones and heavy discussion was going on about LSU, even got several LSU chants from the crowd.

As news kinda got around in the stands from people reporting the final score to each other and the buzz in the crowd was gone. The crowd stuck around, it started emptying close to half and after half. I think this contributed to LSU being beat and also the brutal cold blowing in. There were a lot of fans with kids that just had to head to their cars, that wind was whipping and finally just took a toll. The fans that could stick it out were loud and rowdy and got behind this team.

I just wanted to state this as I've seen about how some people felt fans at the game just "gave up" or whatever else I read, I honestly don't remember it all. The game was great though, good win and let's go beat Vandy.

Thanks. Almost like being there.

Too bad "modern journalism" can't report a story anywhere close to this good.

Incorrect. I was there as well and it was embarrassing. You should have stayed home so you could've watched Florida LSU instead of our game. And lol at the terrible cold, almost half the country got snow and their stadiums stayed full. It wasn't even that cold lol should've looked at the forecast.

Thanks for clearing that up, Verne and Gary made it a point to mention how the stadium looked half empty several times during the game and it all got circled around to the Florida game. The fact that it was cold and ppl left actually makes sense. They probably went to Walmart to buy bread and milk.

Although the cold had a lot to do with families leaving, the people next to us left after word came around that Florida had beaten LSU. The game had that irrelevant feel to it at that point.

That being said, I stayed for the long haul and sang rocky top while Dobbs directed the band.

I find it very hard to believe people planned their day around a Tennessee football game only to leave half way through because Florida beat LSU. That's just absurd and if that actually happened and you're that pathetic of a VOL fan then GTFO and stay out. We don't need your bandwagon ass anyway.

OP has nailed it...

Nearly full @kickoff
Buzz in crowd as some (not ALL 'cause WiFi in Neyland is @2006 levels) monitored LSU FLA
Colder than a tin toilet seat on the shady side of an iceberg...
63 Points warmed things up (a little)
Watching Dobbs direct the POTS final Rocky Top in Neyland from just a few feet away...
Another Daddy/Daughter experience on Rocky Top for me was PERFECT!

I saw the "full" crowd to TV. It was not a great crowd, numbers wise...but sounds like the ones that were there supported the team, so good job. Our performance, until the 4th quarter, was pretty awful--with the exception of Dobbs--especially our defense.

It sucks not to control our own destiny and have to depend on the pieces to fall into place--just like some of you are doing with the Sugar Bowl. Face it, not going to happen, there are 3 SEC schools ranked ahead of us, 1 is in the playoffs, but that leaves 2.

This was a year of should bes and could haves. Next year the "we're young" excuses will be the mantra. Injuries--yeah they killed us, but other teams had injuries as well.

Yeah once the Sun went went down it got pretty brutal with the wind. My wife and kids hung on until 7 minutes to go in the 4th but had to go in by the aid station because they were freezing. I stayed until The final snap. The stadium was still loud even with those who left.

I had several layers on and brought a coat and gloves that I didnt put on until 2nd quarter. I was still cold but I think most of these people were not prepared. When I was walking to the stadium I noticed a lot of people didn't even have coats so I started thinking I was overdressed until I was sitting on the bleacher.

I had on a Northface down winter jacket and was still a little chilly. From what I saw, people were ill prepared for the cold. Truth about the LSU/UF result coming down the pipe. The place died after the word spread. That and a defense that was almost unwatchable. We stayed until the final whistle and had a great time but I don't fault anybody for leaving. They paid their hard earned money.

There were empty seats all over the stadium, especially the student section. I guess they're on Thanksgiving break. The good thing about bleacher seats is that you can put 1 person for every 2 seats and it will still "look" full. Think the O&W game.

Still a "good" crowd for a cold day. But no where near full.

The section I was in was different - after the LSU / FL game was final, folks started to get into the game they should have been watching in the first place.

Anyone who thought this game was irrelevant should not have been there in the first place. All games are relevant. If not, then all teams except those who can still be in the playoffs should just not play next week.

It was fuller than you think. What I have learned is that a lot of folks in the upper decks will stand up along the top. Same is true around the lower deck.

If Florida gets beat by FSU (Possibly) and gets killed by Bama (Very Likely), we will ultimately finish the season ranked higher than them, assuming we win out.

And you all do realize that this was one of those games were folks were moving around and not sitting in their assigned seats which makes is harder to judge the crowd. We had some in our section - 3 had seats 3 were supposed to be somewhere else. They kept moving around trying to find open seats as folks arrived.

And lots of folks standing in places - more so than normal.

It wasn't as empty as folks are making it out to be - about the same size as for Kentucky. If there is any disappointment it is with the number that Missouri brought - but that was to be expected.

I was there in section S. Like I said, nice crowd but nowhere near full. Our section, thank goodness, was pretty full. It helped with the wind.

the crowd did not leave at half time. nowhere near as what the drama queens described. they started filing out around mid 4th quarter once we got the game out of reach. the mood down for a bit once the gators won, but it did pick back up some as the game went. it wasn't brutally cold as many claimed.

i just know our defensive line was used badly yestarday, they had a great scheme against our d-line they just couldn't score TD in the red zone.

I suppose you will make up all the lost revenue if all these people "stay out" like you want.
