Remembering Vol Great Jesse Mahelona

Met Jesse out on campus once. Personable, friendly, and had a grin on his face all night. Didn't carry the "I'm a football player therefore I'm entitled" shtick. Glad he was a vol, sad that he was taken away so soon. Condolences to his family.

RIP Jesse.

I hope UT finds a way to honor him and runs a tribute on the JumboTron before/during UT's game with UCLA Saturday.

He was only at UT for two years, but he had a great effect on people and without him UT doesn't play in the 2004 SEC Championship Game

This is very sad and tragic news, and my prayers are with his family. It is true that you never know when it's your time to go. That's an important lesson to take away from this. Another lesson to take away from this is to not drive under the influence.

Damn- Damn- Damn -Damn Drunk drivers----When will this nonsense end? I am so PO'd over Jesse's death----

Who fed the guy too many?
Who allowed the drunk guy to drive?
Family members had to know drunk had a problem

All are culpable. Jesse is gone-----For what?

I report every suspicious driver I see---especially if they are turning one up. Man--call a freaking cab. This crap has to stop-----somehow. :banghead2:

I'm going to give you a pass this time busy body. Start a wear your seatbelt campaign. It'll save 10000000 more lives than calling suspicious drivers. I'm not advocating drinking & driving....just pointing out that if you want to truly save lives....seatbelts will save tens of thousands more lives.

It's extremely sad and crushing that such a huge heart has been stilled.

The thing I'll always remember about Jesse is his toughness. I remember he played injured quite a bit and yet was still able to make an impact on our defense. I always enjoyed watching him play.

From Jesse's myspace page-his own words...

"God is always a part of our life, even more when we feel defeated by the things of this world and our own self identity. The feelings of victory always taste better after we overcome opposition. It is only at that point when we look back and realize that through every step, choice, and decision God was always in control. Gods’ plan for us is not always easy, and at times we might question his true purpose for us. But one thing we know is that no matter how long or how short of a time it takes God to mold and shape us, his plan is always flawless."

Jesse also wrote this...wow...
"Dear Lord Today is filled with uncertainty but I can rest assure that through faith in you I will prevail. I pray that through my actions and words that I might bring someone closer to you. I pray that through my smile shines hope. I acknowledge the spirit of the enemy and speak the blood of Jesus against any assignment he has on me. For I know my God is a God of encouragement, a God of mercy, and a God of love. I surrender myself far from being perfect and will be slow to pass judgment on those who try. I repent my sins and worries to you and embrace the death of your son Jesus Christ. I pray that you clothed me with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and the spirit of forgiveness. I pray that as I leave my family and friends that you watch over them like the ocean does the earth and the stars the sky. For it is written; in his heart a man plans his course but the lord determines his steps. Most of all father God I pray that you find favor in me in all that I do, for greater is thee that is in me. And if I find today here on earth being my last, then I ask that you claim my spirit to be joined with you in heaven forever, Amen."
