That’s a good point. We were preseason #3 in 2005 and I recall then ABC’s John Saunders picking UT to win the National title during the network’s preseason college football show.

2001 may have been the beginning of the end of national relevance after the LSU loss, but most realized Fulmer had to go after the ‘05 season.

The "magic dust" comment still lives on today.

Remember when every Sat. when Tn kicked off you had a feeling that they could beat whoever they were playing. It didn’t matter who they were playing whether N.D. USC. Al Fl UCLA. OSU you always had that feeling. Now you hope and pray we can beat Ga St Vandy. Ky Ark. BYU or anybody. Times sure have changed.
