Remember When field goals were automatic?

not discrediting Lincoln by any stretch of the imagination, but does the blocked PAT not count against him?

No one is saying that he hasn't made mistakes...

But the reason people are up in arms is because someone called for his starting job. That is retarded.

no no. As i previously stated, I'm a huge fan. A HUGE fan. Very surprised and excited by his performance. I just am curious how he written as 49/49 on PATS when he had one blocked. Sorry for any confusion

It is completely irrational to say that DL should lose his job as starting FG kicker. He's a freshman and will continue to improve.

no no. I wasn't saying that you were the sayer of nay, the last part was concerning the OP that had suggested he lose his starting job. Not at you volfanbill. Not at you.

on that note, i'll ask again. Does a blocked PAT not count as a miss? is it only a miss if you actually go wide right/left or short?

Yes, it does. It is still a responsibility of the K to kick the ball as to avoid a block. Same with QBs and passes batted down at the LOS counting as incomplete passes. It is their responsibility to throw it in such a manner as to avoid the DL batting them down... in theory.

that's what i thought. So lincoln is 48/49 or 49/50. I'm just curious. I was hoping the kid could go his career without a missed PAT. Didn't Becksvoort pull that off? I met him this summer and he's a really classy guy. Was surprised I knew who he was. Jeff Hall may have done it as well, but I'm not sure.

thanks, btw.

He did cost us some games but also won us several.

Lincoln was the least of our problems. We got more than we should have expected from a true freshman kicker this season and he certainly helped win more games than he's lost.

This is getting ridiculous. Lincoln was very good at times and good the rest of the time this season. He should have made that first field goal..but a lot of guys miss field goals they should make. I have been very impressed with him this year, particularly because he is a freshman.

I don't ever recall field goals being automatic. Whom are you referring to??

BTW Ryan Suck up even missed one.

If any of our kickers disappointed me it was Colquitt. HIs punts were less than great this year. Have to believe it had something to do with his injury.

FG's, like transmissions, aren't always automatic.

Those of us old enough to remember a "three on the column" may recall UT once had a kicker who earned the moniker, Gary "Wide" Wright. Or how about Greg Burke's unforgettable performance in "Bama 9 - UT 6", 1990?

Lincoln has performed very well for a freshman PK. I expect him to win some games for us in the near future.

i have NEVER thought a field goal, from ANY distance is automatic. many teams lose games every year just because of missed extra points. i ALWAYS sweat them out.

wow. I thought I had seen it all. Bashing Lincoln? Are you serious? I'm so thankful for this kid. Can't wait to see what his next three years at Rocky Top bring.
Right on. That freshman was phenominal all year. He's gonna be a great one.

I cannot think of any kicker who was truly automatic, probably the closest was Reviez or however you spell it.
My favorite kicker was Ricky Townsend, barefooter.
