Remember back when you first heard we had hired Dooley

OP is right..

There was a lot of blind hope. Dooley turned out to be a good guy and a decent coach, but something is definitely missing.

I thought - a coaching legends kid, how can we go wrong! You know how that turned out. I keep wanting to give him chances... I am done.

Everyone is going crazy for Gruden and I like Gruden as well. But I am worried about his offense and how complex it is. He's used to having a lot of time to implement his offense. In the NFL you can spend all day teaching it but college, you're limited in te amount of time you can spend.

as a bald man i was envious of his hair, aside from that I was like most a college fball junkie and was surprised I had never heard of him.

I bet there were some happy people in Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, and Athens.

Looks like they still have Tennessee to kick around after all.

These are the exact words I typed on the day he was hired . . .

This is probably one of the worst hires in Tennessee football history. You know what? Forget one of, it is the worst hire. How the f*** do you hire a guy that has a career record of 17-20? Tell me that. I want to f***ing hear from Mike Hamilton, our milquetoast AD, on how this could possibly be construed as a good hire. This, this hire pisses me off worse than when Kiffin left. It's an absolutely garbage hire. Garbage.

I don't want to say I'm done with Tennessee football. I've rooted for this team ever since I was a baby. But after the s*** that's gone on here the last few years, it's becoming demoralizing to even root for this team.

My Reaction was What, Derek Dooley @ Louisiania Tech? What's Dooley's resume look like? I thought well his Dad was a great coach and maybe Hamilton knows what he's doing and that Dooley can bring some integrity and stability back to Tennessee. I was indeed open minded and glad we finally landed a coach. I've just lost faith in Dooley over the past 2 1/2 years after seeing what he has to bring to Tennessee.....I just don't see him as being able to win in the SEC and his record is proof. Does he deserve more time....I don't know....but it doesn't look like much will change next year....Hell we may be worse on offense, don't think we can get much worse on defense...thats what I think Now

I looked up his record as soon as I heard of him as a candidate. I said "oh no."

That day I came up with my Christmas present analogy. When Kiffin left, it was like a week before Christmas and all of a sudden your kid tells you all they want from Santa this year is the hot toy that is sold out everywhere. What do you do? Well, you can get on ebay and pay some insane amount for this toy. You'll feel sick about it, but in the end, you have the toy, and your kid has a happy Christmas, and eventually you'll forget about the financial sting of it. Or you can give the kid an IOU, tell him Santa couldn't get the toy in time, but he's going to get it in a month, when there are more available, in the meantime, he can play with an interim present. The kid may not be happy, but in a month, he's going to be happy, and he's going to play with his toy and all will be forgotten. Both of these solutions work. But, the one thing you can't do is buy a Sega Dreamcast and try to pass it off as a Nintendo Wii. Because your kid may trust you when you tell him that the Dreamcast is just as good, but once he starts playing with it and once he sees all of his friends playing with their Wiis, he's going to soon realize that you conned him and that the two don't stack up. And he's going to feel cheated. I realized that day that Hamilton was buying a ****ing Dreamcast and trying to pass it off as a Wii.

I am rolling! Nice!

If we keep Dooley or hire another terrible HC. It would mean the end of the program. Would you keep posting on VOL sites?

The stadium would be used mainly for concerts and monster truck shows. Would you be one of the 50k going to the games?

What will you do?

It is the end if we keep Dooley or fire and hire another bad HC. If we land Gruden or another stud it would be a 2nd life for the program.

Keep Dooley? At least 80% of this fan base would still be fired up for the season based on hyped pre-season reports and whatever beat down we initiate during week one of next year alone.

If we hired someone we don't want like Kirby Smart we would still be fired up because it's someone new.

I am a "VOL FOR LIFE" I will support my vols no matter what. In my opinion if you have any other thought you need to go jump on the BAMMER bandwagon and be a "ROLL TURD" fan.

I don't support a coach or a player. I support the team that represents the institution ... The University of Tennessee. By blood runs ORANGE!

I'll bet your reaction was the same as mine.

Who? Hmm, I'll bet he's related to Vince Dooley. Ok, yeah its his son. Let me fire up Wikipedia here...hmm, coached at Louisiana Tech...17-20 record..what the..? Really, this is what we just hired?

2 and a half years later and a grand total of 4 SEC wins makes you think that your first reaction was pretty much spot on.

here was my thoought:

If you think we will just survive and go on as the Ole Miss of the East you are VFL according to responses. If you demand excellence you are a bandwagon fan. Makes sense.

Discussing possible outcomes for the future is one thing. Your use of the word "would" indicates a certain outcome.
50K going to games? Really?

Interesting...

All of these Chicken Little threads and posts have already got me coming here less frequently.

I will support the team in misery much like the past few years. You know, keep with the process.
