Remember Attrition?

And... I don't believe that he has personal knowledge of the professional aspirations of Butch Jones. You are free to believe whatever you want, of course. I've just seen too many (ahem, insiders) talk out of their butts on here.

...fwiw, I don't believe that Gene Chizik was ever going to be our DC either but again, that's just my opinion. Believe what you want. :hi:

Quite frankly, you're showing your @$$.

Unlike many around here, LWS is the real deal.

Don't try to save the rest of us from reading what he has to share.

Sorry, I know it's heresy to express skepticism of an insider here but I did just give an opinion. Anyone can disagree or disregard it.

Not heresy, just uncool. Even more so when the insider you are calling out is arguably the most well connected poster on the board.

I've been here since 2008, joined in 2009 and have never seen Larry do anything but share information.

He has always had eye to the NFL as a long range future.

I don't believe the lawsuit itself has him thinking of doing anything sooner. What has him upset over the lawsuit was UT not settling last fall when they were presented a chance to settle. could have avoided all this negative publicity.

A very good season this fall MIGHT present him an opportunity to look to the future.

Sorry, can't buy that. This lawsuit was presented by the lawyers to the Tennessean specifically for publicity. The cat was never in the bag because the publicity was necessary to drive a settlement. It didn't work, but the "reporting" has shown the shallowness of the charges. Who knows whether it has really affected recruiting, but there's not that much reason that it should. It's not going to lead to sanctions against the school, and it's not going to lead to coaches losing jobs.

Well, if I was a jerk about it, I do apologize. Was not my intention. It is in my nature to be skeptical. I probably am letting the DC hire loom large.

I do understand that but it does have to do with LWSVol because I was responding to his "it's not a big secret" remark. I took that to mean that he was saying it was on the record. I asked him to provide a link and he said he doesn't do links. I searched for it and couldn't find anything about Butch expressing an interest in the NFL... That's where it ends. :peace2:
It's not a big secret to the crowd he runs with, it is to you and to us. It's not that hard to comprehend.

Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, Travis Stephens, and Onterrio Smith were all on the same team at one point.

That might be the greatest collection of running back talent on a team other than Miami's 2001 team.

Also amazing was the 1992 Georgia game that featured Garner, Stewart and Hayden PLUS Garrison Hearst and Terrell Davis. And Heath Shuler and Eric Zeier.

Good Lawd!

Hmmm...what kind of deal did Butch strike that would get Shoop, when it was a dead end 8 hours earlier??? Did he promise him the HC job, if we are as successful as we all hope this year, and Butch tries to bolt for the NFL?

I think the deal was sweetened. Remember how he had a 800k buyout that he was supposed to pay? That's where boosters (and your agent) come in. I'd be willing to bet he got a really fat bonus in a separate contract not affiliated with the UTAD.

Just glad we got him.

Lost our backup punter and 6th string TE...gonna get bloody! :scare:

"Remember attrition"
Yes I do, I believe it came after
"Can't recruit in the SEC" and "will never win against one of the big 3" but before "worst OC hire ever" and "refusing to fire his friends will be his downfall".

Is that about right?

So, a summary according to current rumors*:

-- Vincent Perry (WR) going JUCO, hoping to be drafted into MLB
-- Tommy Townsend (P) leaving as well, Trevor Daniel locked the job down for next 2 yrs
-- Neiko Creamer (TE) considering leaving, seems torn on the decision so far

So...2, maybe 3 in 2016 attrition. That's 2-3 below the SEC average, and far below the Vols' average from 2013-2015.

Any more we might expect, LWS or GWF or anyone else with contacts inside the team?

* all three of these young men remain on the Vols online roster, so at this point no moves have been confirmed.

Perry staying with the team, working to get his scholly back. Tennessee freshman ruled academically ineligible for 2016

Still no word on whether Creamer has made a decision, or where Townsend is going.

Tally now at 0-to-2 attrition in the off-season.

I dont do math much but I do know how to count. That would be 3. Perry has already lost his scholarship and must earn it back.

I look forward to bumping this thread 6-7 times in the next 6 months.

Perry's still with the team (non-playing walk-on). He is not leaving for a JUCO. He is not looking to be drafted into MLB. He's staying with the Vols, contrary to earlier rumors.

So...that would be 0 to 2, depending on whether Creamer and Townsend actually pull the trigger.

And I may be misunderstanding your intent, but why would you look forward to 6-7 more departures from the program in the next six months? Attrition is a fact of life, sure, but look forward to it?

JP is correct but that's ok, you admitted that you don't do math.

But like him, I'm extremely curious.
What do you mean you look forward to it?
