Take a look at the bracket. If we beat Utep and Xavier beats Iowa, then we get our early season rematch with Xavier on a neutral site. I like our chances at revenge. I think our shooting woes from that season opener will subside.

X will have their starters back for that game so they might be better also.

Hate to say it but I don't see the Vols progressing very far into this tournament. They don't seemed to have jelled into a cohesive unit just yet.
In any case, my money's on Iowa over Xavier.

Well, first I hope we take care of business against UTEP, they won't be a pushover by any means.

Secondly, not only do I expect Iowa to beat Xavier, but I would rather face Iowa. Not because I think we matchup better, but because Iowa would be a tougher test IMO and a better barometer.

Iowa is a ranked team right now. As much as I would like to get revenge against Xavier, I would much rather play and beat the ranked team that many prognoticators have labeled as an underrated team to watch.

With all of that said, we don't play well outside of TBA or the O-Dome and our successs under CCM in any kind of tournament speaks for itself at this point. Here is to hoping that this week we turn it around.

As usual Tennessee fans are talking about who's next when we haven't beaten the team in front of us..... Sounds just like last year's SEC tournament.

Let's beat UTEP and move on from there! I love Tennessee but we haven't shown anything over the last few years that would make feel UTEP is a definite win.

GO VOLS!

Interesting that rpiforecast gives Xavier the same chance 46% of beating Iowa that they gave TN to beat Xavier.
Both teams are undefeated.
Neither team has played a game on the road.
Xavier has played the tougher schedule and has improved since we played them.
I like Xavier in the upset.

Certainly wouldn't shock anyone if Xavier won. Who knows, it could mean that X is just a lot better than anyone realized and we should all feel a lot better about that season opening loss.

We're not on the team. Fans can focus on whichever game they want. I've never understood the "only focus on the next game" argument for a fanbase. There's no harm in talking about different scenarios that could happen if we win.

Yea I would love to see Xavier wax Iowa.

What would be more beneficial for us you think (resume' wise)? Beating a top 25 Iowa team on a neutral floor or a revenge win over Xavier on a neutral floor?

You see Xavier will not have had enough time to move into the top 25 if they did beat Iowa is what kind of sucks. I'm inclined to believe that the win over Iowa would look better.

I'm a coach..... Only way I know how to look at things. That said, I can understand your position. :hi:

I think it also stems from watching Vols Hoops be so close to getting in the tournament (IE last season) and falling one game short (All this while fans are playing out scenarios that never pan out) .

It depends on how they finish the regular season more than anything.

If we beat a top 25 Iowa team and they end up losing 15 games, it doesn't mean much. If we beat an unranked Xavier and they end up in the top 25, it will be more beneficial.

Ahh, I gotcha. That definitely makes sense then. I'm sure it's just engrained in you now.
