Relax. Maurer may not be hurt at all.

Why would you care about saving Shrout a year? He is not going to be playing next year here. He probably will end up transferring.

I dont care I was replying to someone who thought we could play Shrout 3 more games and still red shirt him.
You need to read the whole thread or not reply at all.

I hope you’re right. Otherwise, we seriously need to install the triple option with JJ, Grey and chandler.
Throw 12-15 passes a game and hope u can ring up 250 rushing yards. If Shrout is our only hope, we are in trouble. He’s just not ready to play at this level.

250 rushing yards? On drugs much?

I didn’t see Maurer on the sidelines at all. To me, that’s not good? Maybe I missed something

The broadcasters sure weren't going to tell us what was going on with Brian because they were obsessed with what was going on with Tua and if the fans were smoking. I'm surprised they didn't follow Tua into the bathroom.

Steve Levy would pay cash for that assignment.

Your missing the whole point boss. I understand the way things played out tonight that he ends up concussed. I am saying if he was bigger maybe he stays on his feet and his head does not end up bouncing off his lineman’s kneecap like a ping pong ball. I understand concussions as I have had a few myself. If the physics were different so could have been the outcome PRIOR to contact with the knee. We will have to agree to disagree.

He really need a good year in the weight room to get some pounds/muscle on his frame. You are absolutely correct, he will withstand some of these hits. But he also needs some ballet classes to learn not to land on his head. I like this kid, I hope he is ok, but he is very fragile at this point of the season.

I think you’re being too hard on the kid. He’s 18 and not at the weight he will be but Calling him soft is BS. If you can point out 1 other qb that wouldn’t have missed time after the hits he’s taken I’ll say you have a point. But until then I’m going with what I know and he’s missed 1 game his entire career and that was before Hs. That kid is tough as nails but has just had a series of unfortunate circumstances in his first few starts. He’ll learn from them.
“Tough as nails”??? Lol. Look, I like the kid’s moxie, I like his mentality, he’s a gamer and the other players feed off his energy. But he’s left each of the last 3 games due to injury after pretty much taking 1 big hit. Physically, he’s frail and prone to injury, that’s indisputable, and that can’t be fixed this season. JT Shrout better get ready because after last night I don’t see how Pruitt can possibly put Guarantano out there again and, as we know, there’s zero chance Maurer will finish a game if he’s able to return from 2 concussions now.

Weight doesn’t have anything to do with Maurer’s concussions. Cam Newton could have had the same problems if he landed the same way on the two concussion plays. It is just a bad luck issue.
No it’s not. His frail physical stature saw him get nearly broken in half vs Georgia on a blindside hit from a DB....he looked like he just took a grenade when he went limp on the sideline and tried to lay down.
The concussion vs MissSt was bizarre in how it happened...he gets tripped up and some how winds up getting flipped and bounces off his head? It’s because he’s so physically slight. And then last night....the freshman Alabama linebacker pushed him and he went flying backward like he’d just been hit by a .50 caliber round.....and his head only glanced off of Wright’s leg, it wasn’t a solid knee to the head or anything. Imho, all of those plays were exacerbated by him being rail thin and unable to take ANY physical punishment that an SEC defense can dish out. Guarantee you Trask at 230 and Fromm at 220 absorb all of those hits and don’t miss a snap.

Right, and and blow your chance of upsetting #1 Bama with Tua out.

If you’re kid can get hurt worse it doesn’t matter. The young mans health is on CJP and he made the right call. Stinks for us but the right call.

We know so much more about CTE and head trauma than even ten years ago. While there is far more to learn consensus points to ensuring a player is fully recovered before resuming activities or the damage can be far worse.

The off season have to find a grad Transfer QB to go with the freshman and hopefully Maurer will be able to return as well. This season JG not gonna win many of the remaining games. Shrout may never play well enough to even get a shot but I would give him that chance over JG next week. I don't see Maurer returning anytime soon after suffering his second concussion.

I’ll be on an island but I honestly don’t believe he had a concussion against Ms St, there’s no way with everything that goes on with head injuries he’s back the next day. I think he hurt his neck, and last night was a combination of that plus a head bump.

I’m not saying the dr’s shouldn’t be cautious or put him through poetical, but I’ve literally taken harder shots falling off a snowboard then what he took. There’s more to this, I hope he gets healthy and comes back

I don't question Maurer's toughness at all, but how much has he ever been hit really? There's an art to getting hit without taking a hard shot that has to be learned and that's even moreso for a true freshman
Did you actually see the play against Mississippi State where he got hurt? He got his legs cut out from under him and he piledrived himself forehead first into the ground. I am glad it was only a "concussion". When he reached back to the back of his neck, then collapsed over for a second, I was afraid it might be more. If you are recovering from a concussion, hitting your head on someone's knee as you are falling down from a hard shove can definitely cause it to resurface. It is not that he is glass, just had a hard collision with the ground that takes a while to recover from.

If I had to guess the reason he was held out was precautionary. If he indeed was concussed last week (even if minor) a shot to the head could make it worse. I personally would rather have him as healthy as possible going into next week and beyond and a (hypothetical) win at Alabama wouldn’t change that.

It's very unfortunate what's happening to him.

We could have beaten Alabama last night. If Maurer plays from the start of the season we beat GA State and BYU...maybe Florida is closer?

The way the team reacts to Maurer is what you want from a team. And...if things FOR ONCE... would line up at the right time...than this season could have been special.

Besides you, Ive been the biggest Maurer supporter on here. But man.. It doesnt look good for him. Its BS that this is happening, but he cant have a football career and this stuff be happening...

Shane Lee is 243 lbs, and he hit Maurer late. Maurer weighing 225 wouldn't have stopped him from flying into Darnell Wright which, hitting his leg on the way is what caused his concussion. Wright weighs 330, he's not going to move much at all if someone 225 or 195 falls into him; it's just physics at that point.

That should have been a flag on Bama

No doubt about it. That's why I don't want to even slightly suggest a head injury has anything to do with toughness. But at the same time, it's obvious that we need to be very careful about exposing him.

Listen man. First of all he took a nasty hit against UGA that would’ve put 80% of qbs out the following week. He was trying to get back in the game after catching his breath. Same with last week. Landing on his head the way he did would’ve put out 90% of qbs. Once again... they took his helmet from him. Protocol doesn’t mean confirmed. It means “looking for signs” which he obviously passed. So there was no concussion last week. Probably more of stinger. Last night the way he was twisted up when DW fell over top of him could’ve easily re aggravated said stinger.
So I think we are reading way too deep into his toughness and the fact that the TRAINERS didn’t let him finish any games and not enough into the facts surrounding it.

No doubt. I have seen QBs get a concussion from hitting their head on a players leg when they didn't have one the week before. Some people still don't understand that a concussion happens from the movement of your brain inside your skull, not directly from impact. A sudden stop of your head is all it takes. That has been the one problem with Maurer. He is electric, but reckless. He tries to make the superman play when he is loose and running through the secondary. He is too important to the team right now to copy the Mississippi State QB copter play.

They called targeting on the firld instead of roughing the passer, and then overturned targeting call. The rule should allow them to reclassify the penalty as a late hit, but it does not at the moment.
It's ridiculous what they will and won't allow refs to correct despite having clear video evidence.
