I didn’t see Maurer on the sidelines at all. To me, that’s not good? Maybe I missed something
Your missing the whole point boss. I understand the way things played out tonight that he ends up concussed. I am saying if he was bigger maybe he stays on his feet and his head does not end up bouncing off his lineman’s kneecap like a ping pong ball. I understand concussions as I have had a few myself. If the physics were different so could have been the outcome PRIOR to contact with the knee. We will have to agree to disagree.
“Tough as nails”??? Lol. Look, I like the kid’s moxie, I like his mentality, he’s a gamer and the other players feed off his energy. But he’s left each of the last 3 games due to injury after pretty much taking 1 big hit. Physically, he’s frail and prone to injury, that’s indisputable, and that can’t be fixed this season. JT Shrout better get ready because after last night I don’t see how Pruitt can possibly put Guarantano out there again and, as we know, there’s zero chance Maurer will finish a game if he’s able to return from 2 concussions now.I think you’re being too hard on the kid. He’s 18 and not at the weight he will be but Calling him soft is BS. If you can point out 1 other qb that wouldn’t have missed time after the hits he’s taken I’ll say you have a point. But until then I’m going with what I know and he’s missed 1 game his entire career and that was before Hs. That kid is tough as nails but has just had a series of unfortunate circumstances in his first few starts. He’ll learn from them.
No it’s not. His frail physical stature saw him get nearly broken in half vs Georgia on a blindside hit from a DB....he looked like he just took a grenade when he went limp on the sideline and tried to lay down.Weight doesn’t have anything to do with Maurer’s concussions. Cam Newton could have had the same problems if he landed the same way on the two concussion plays. It is just a bad luck issue.
Right, and and blow your chance of upsetting #1 Bama with Tua out.
Did you actually see the play against Mississippi State where he got hurt? He got his legs cut out from under him and he piledrived himself forehead first into the ground. I am glad it was only a "concussion". When he reached back to the back of his neck, then collapsed over for a second, I was afraid it might be more. If you are recovering from a concussion, hitting your head on someone's knee as you are falling down from a hard shove can definitely cause it to resurface. It is not that he is glass, just had a hard collision with the ground that takes a while to recover from.I don't question Maurer's toughness at all, but how much has he ever been hit really? There's an art to getting hit without taking a hard shot that has to be learned and that's even moreso for a true freshman
If I had to guess the reason he was held out was precautionary. If he indeed was concussed last week (even if minor) a shot to the head could make it worse. I personally would rather have him as healthy as possible going into next week and beyond and a (hypothetical) win at Alabama wouldn’t change that.
Shane Lee is 243 lbs, and he hit Maurer late. Maurer weighing 225 wouldn't have stopped him from flying into Darnell Wright which, hitting his leg on the way is what caused his concussion. Wright weighs 330, he's not going to move much at all if someone 225 or 195 falls into him; it's just physics at that point.
No doubt about it. That's why I don't want to even slightly suggest a head injury has anything to do with toughness. But at the same time, it's obvious that we need to be very careful about exposing him.Did you actually see the play against Mississippi State where he got hurt? Listen man. First of all he took a nasty hit against UGA that would’ve put 80% of qbs out the following week. He was trying to get back in the game after catching his breath. Same with last week. Landing on his head the way he did would’ve put out 90% of qbs. Once again... they took his helmet from him. Protocol doesn’t mean confirmed. It means “looking for signs” which he obviously passed. So there was no concussion last week. Probably more of stinger. Last night the way he was twisted up when DW fell over top of him could’ve easily re aggravated said stinger.“Tough as nails”??? Lol. No doubt. I have seen QBs get a concussion from hitting their head on a players leg when they didn't have one the week before. Some people still don't understand that a concussion happens from the movement of your brain inside your skull, not directly from impact. A sudden stop of your head is all it takes. That has been the one problem with Maurer. He is electric, but reckless. He tries to make the superman play when he is loose and running through the secondary. He is too important to the team right now to copy the Mississippi State QB copter play.No doubt about it. It's ridiculous what they will and won't allow refs to correct despite having clear video evidence. They called targeting on the firld instead of roughing the passer, and then overturned targeting call. The rule should allow them to reclassify the penalty as a late hit, but it does not at the moment.
