Regular Season Vols Dead Last

I think under heupel we’ll always tend to be lower than average on time of possession, but it won’t be this low once we get some players on defense. The combination of our quick scoring offense and our defenses inability to get off he field on 3rd/4th down is why we are so insanely low

Probably the most overrated statistic in football. Possession time is important in the last 2-3 minutes of each half in a competitive game. Otherwise, not so much.

I get not wanting to wear down the D. But that comes from snaps played, not a ticking clock. Best way to keep D snaps down is 3rd down stops, and creating more turnovers than you cough up. Pace of Offense is less important here than 3rd down stops/creating turnovers.

Think about the players Heupel has done this with:
Hooker-transfer from VT
Payton-transfer from Miss St
VJones-transfer from USC
Tillman-2 star wo really any significant stats prior to Heupel’s arrival.
Our Oline was completely lackluster prior to this year as well.

Heupel has taken underdeveloped and underutilized players and made a dynamic offense. It’s beyond impressive for a turnaround on the offensive side of the ball.

Go look at CJH's introductory press conference. He straight up told us we will NEVER lead in time of possession. He also said it would more often than not be stupid in comparison to our opponents. Well, I say he talked the talk. He walked the walk. 1st coach in CFB in a LONG time that delivered. I F'n LOVE this guy!

I love watching our offense, but I hate the pressure it puts on OUR defense.

Sorry but this is a bad take.
The Def had a great many TFL’s but did not stop many drives and get off the field much and many teams, including Vandy, managed time-consuming drives on the regular.
Defensively the Vols need a huge improvement in ‘22.
With a decent Def the Offense would’ve had a great many more opportunities!

Exactly my point. Our defense wears down faster due to our fast paced offense. It comes with the territory when you run the hurry up.
