We still need a change on Defense

I don't know how far up the ladder Fulmer goes
If it's Slade, Caldwell, Brooks and Chavis
Our some combination but we need change on the defensive side of the ball.

It might help if our offense didn't keep these guys on the field the entire second half, also.

I'm thinking back to last year, also

Couldn't stop Tebow on 4th and 1
Russell from LSU makes two huge 3rd and long plays

and for several years our tackling has been horrible

I'd like to see our line play improve, and second to that see tackling get better

Watch Miss State, their guys can tackle

If we had played Crompton UT would have lost last night. In fact, we would have lost by at least 14, I'd say.

Ainge worked with a short field after 2 first half turnovers and didn't do squat the rest of the game.

Don't make it sound like he put together epic drives...

I know he didn't. I believe Crompton would have turned the ball over multiple times.

Does it matter? Ainge is a decent quarterback and our coaches suck. End of story PERIOD.

I watched the game again today, USC tied the score with about 12 minutes left in the 4th quarter, and the D only allowed 3 points the rest of the 4th quarter and in overtime. That was quite an accomplishment looking at the game again, especially when USC got an interception from Ainge at the 30 with a couple of minutes to go, I thought it was over, but the D stopped them. In overtime they stepped up and stopped USC.

So the D had two huge turnovers in the 4th and one huge stop and then they had one huge stop in overtime.

This Crompton hating in every thread is goofy. The kid didn't see the football field, we have no idea what he would have done, but we know exactly what Ainge did...nothing in the second half. I don't think Ainge needed to come out, but give me a break with knocking on Crompton. The kid came off the bench as a (RS) Freshman against the best defense in the SEC, and a ruff Arkansas team. I can clearly picture Ainge throwing the ball to an LSU defender out of our endzone, so he hasn't faired much better against them.

agree on the Crompton thing. Let it go until next season or until we get him on the field.

Crompton has looked horrible in the little time he's gotten this year. From what I've heard in scrimmages, he isn't doing to well. When I watched him in the Orange and White game, I was not even a little impressed.

I don't hate him or anything, but I seriously doubt he's on the same level as Ainge.

Ainge is not on the level of Ainge. Ever Notice the QBs that come to UT and the longer they are here the worst they get.

I know its an argument and sounds idiotic but Even Peyton had a drop off. I think it is in the coaching complex of the offense or just throwing short.

Both Ainge and Manning improved at UT. If you think otherwise.... I don't know what to say.

Its a hard argument to prove because I believe that Ainge is a 1st Rounder. He had talent When he first came in and the Clausen Ainge fiasco plus injuries caused considerable drop off. Cut brought him back to life last year with a solid receiving Corps.... This year maybe it is just the supporting cast around him. It is something I have noticed from year to year. The more complex of an offense the more confused our QBs seem to be.

I know everyone is saying we didnt deserve the win..... but how many times in the past do you remember a Spurrier coached team beat us that didnt deserve the win! I know plenty but enjoy the fact we just shoved this back in his face! :)

Ainge's freshman year was one of the more overrated performances in Vol history. He struggled against the better defenses he played. The offense was very simplified. When things got more complicated (2005) he couldn't handle it. You can't say he hasn't improved. He's mentally 1000 miles ahead of where he once was.

What is with this obesession of wanting defensive coaching changes but completely ignoring the 3 total offensive points we have against UF, Bama, and USC in the second half?

I think the fact that we pass the ball a lot makes people think our offense is innovative and effective. It's still crappy and predictable, just in a different way.

I thought Ainge should have been pulled for Crompton in at least 1 series in the 2nd half to get Ainge's attention.

He knows no matter how bad he plays the job is his.

It's still up about 7-8 points a game vs '04 and '05
I think its about 31 points a game
