Reflections on a Bad, Bad Saturday

I will blame the coaching for the bad play calling on the goal line at the end of the game. Can I get a rollout or play action? Just one would have been nice.

What in the hell has shown you that Crompton can execute any of these, besides playing against the WORST team statistically in CFB. Crompton is what he is. We cannot call anything with him under center, period. We are all going to have to understand that. This guy is done. He can't play the position, he can't play under pressure, he just simply cannot do it. Blame whoever the hell you want to blame, but deep down, it all boils down to a QB. Lane can't call any plays because JC WILL screw it up, period. This is going to be a repeat of last year people, face it. Run, run, run, punt. Hope that EB gets a pick 6...repeat. THERE IS NO HOPE WITH THIS KID AT QB, NONE, PERIOD. He has had more than his fair share of chances, but he just simply cannot do it. I don't blame the kid, I don't threaten to kill him, it is what it is. He just simply cannot perform what is needed at the position. Sadly, we have to run with him against UF this week, because tuning a new QB under that would be worse. If he looks just as bad again this week, scrap him and start NS against Ohio and get him ready. We will never be anything more than mediocre with this kid at the helm, it's evident. He simply cannot perform the task, the end.

Coaching really? So you would have put the ball in Cromptons hands and made him make the play to win the game for you?? I say that Kiffin made the right decision to put the ball in Hardestys hands, that guy was running hard the whole game. All we had to do was block. And you saw what happened earlier in the game when we were near the goalline and Crompton threw a pic in the endzone. Get off the coaching staff, they didnt recruit Crompton or Pick-NIck.

We tried to block and got our butts pushed backwards. The defense guessed correctly, as did most people watching, that TN was going to try to run it in. Crompton is more than capable of faking a hand-off and bootlegging with an option to run, pass, or throw it out of the endzone on 3rd down. I'm not supporting Crompton, but the coaches were "out coached" by the defense in that situation.

4. Back to Back illegal proceedure calls before our FG attempt. How can these guys handle the swamp?

I heard an interview with Daniel Lincoln after the game, and he said the penalties were caused by the UCLA linebackers mimicking our cadence, which is the same cadence we used last year.

Obviously, that is a flaw we need to remedy, but I did think it was an interesting explanation.

I thought it would be the perfect time to put in the Nuke package since they had not seen it all game...

Maybe a lil G-gun/wild berry at the goal would have been nice

You don't do trick plays or high school formations at the goal line. You run between the tackles. It shouldn't be hard for your OL to get a two yard push when the game is on the line.

play action would have won the game

I agree with everybody's frustration, but Crompton's ineptitude is what led to the playcalling. Why would Kiffin want to put the game in his hands after what we all witnessed earlier. I'm just glad we were able to snap the ball cleanly.

I do wish he had mixed it up a bit as opposed to running the same plays, but I believe the coach's hands were tied.

This is a 9-3 team with even an aversage quarterback. But, with him handing the ball over to the other side repatedly, we will be lucky, very lucky to go 6-6.

It is sad that the school that produced Peyton Manning has such a lack of talent at the QB position.

I couldn't disagree more. Did you watch the first 3 quarters and all of last year. The guy isn't capable of making it through an entire game without fumbling a snap.

What did you see Saturday that made you believe that?

I completely understand the coaching staff's belief that our best chance of moving the ball 3 yards in two downs was by running it.

Inaccurate and not worthy of a response.

I think it was 4-5 yards in two downs, and... it's difficult to move it 1 yard when the defense is stacked against you anticipating the run. Regardless, I didn't see anything that would lead me to believe that Crompton can't execute a bootleg. He did it earlier in the game. How hard is it to fake a hand off and run? Unless your claiming that Crompton is incapable of running I don't understand your question.

Let's just leave it at this: given our ineptitude all day long in the passing game, I totally understand why the coaching staff would rather place the game in the hands of our tailbacks rather than our quarterback, even against a stacked box.

Crompton is incapable of doing anything beyond existing, and pissing me off. Other than that, he CLEARLY cannot do anything else.

He needs to go away, we cannot get past this until he goes away. Our poor QB play affects every aspect of the game! Defense starts ALREADY in field goal position, not to mention on the field all damn game. We can't throw passes because our QB can only create COMPLETE CHAOS, so we have to run all the damn time.

I hope we all don't mind another year of deja vu....

Gotta give the staff time to upgrade the tallent. I felt pretty good after the opener even if it was WKU.

They appear to be getting the horses just got to be patient.

Good one, except you forgot to include me and everyone else except his parents. With that said, we the fans should not be booing the kid. I don't doubt he is trying his hardest.

BUT, this is his 5th year in the program. If a kid doesn't have it by then, he isn't going to have it.

I wouldn't play Stephens against Florida because it would only shatter his confidence, and we don't need two broken down QBs. If we see Stephens, it should be against Ohio.
