This is the kind of leadership you love to see...

Derek Barnett initially spotted the recurring mistake. Jalen Reeves-Maybin then turned it into an important offseason lesson for Tennessee's football team.

The senior linebacker and team captain cobbled together a video of plays from spring practice that mirrored plays from last season, when the Volunteers narrowly missed the kind of special season they're hoping to produce in 2016.

..."Usually I want to proof the video, but I had so much faith and confidence in him, I said, 'OK, go ahead,'" Jones said. "He walks up to the team and put together a 25-point video on his own. But the thing about leadership is leaders eat last.

"The first thing he did is he showed clips from different games of himself, whether it was a missed tackle, whether it was a missed communication, a missed fundamental in coverage — it started with him. Then he proceeded to go through all of the critical plays (on) offense, defense and special teams."

It's great we have players like this. He is definitely a VFL and I can't wait to watch him this year

One of my favorite stories to come out of all of media days.
Not just the leadership but the fact that they did identify certain technique issues.

He has been class, and presents himself well each time I've heard him. I'm positive the team looks up to him.

JRM is proof positive that oftentimes future greatness shows up first (and early) on special teams. I distinctly remember multiple occasions (and I'm sure I missed some) where as a true FR he made some nasty hits and textbook tackles on KO and punt coverage/defense. Always seemed like he was the first man to the returner and it was obvious he had a nose for the football.

Great article !

Impressive!!

Maybe, just maybe he can deliver an Al Wilson like season and lead the Vols to a Title, just like big Al did in 1998!

This is very impressive on multiple levels. The obvious is JRM. The subtle one is CBJ not managing but leading. He let's players take ownership of leadership roles without micromanaging their decisions. This is huge for our immediate and future teams. Loved reading this!

This is how teams learn, grow, and mature. I expect big things this season for a reason.

When knuckleheads show why they are knuckleheads it's frustrating, but then you have guys like this! I want him to be successful, not just on the Football field, but in life! He is so easy to root for! Definitely a VFL. You can recruit players, but when you get a leader it is so special!
