“I think we just have a lot of confidence in each other. We can talk to each other, we can get on each other and a lot of us have been here so long that we don’t feel attacked by it or take it personal or anything. We all know we have a job to do. We’ve been friends for two or three years here and I think that’s something that will help us — just being able to communicate with each other and hold each other to a high standard.”

What a difference this makes. Constuctive criticism accepted, as opposed to feeling butt hurt.

This very well could be the year. I CAN'T WAIT!

Imagine it's 2014 and you're a big national recruit. You sign with UT and show up to a team mostly made up of Freshmen and Sophomores. The few juniors and seniors that are there aren't used to winning, holding themselves accountable, or holding their teammates accountable. So then it's up to the coaches to get on your butt when you do things wrong. At times this comes across as talking down to your players, which has been a complaint against Butch and his coaches.

But after a couple of years in the program those kids become the mentors and they realize that what the coaches were doing was necessary in order to create a championship mentality. Now you're seeing the players grasp that concept and become more of a player coached team as Butch likes to say.

The most respectable trait of a leader is to develope your replacement. It may be for next year, next game or even the next play.

Our guys seem to be confident enough to bring the youngsters along without being threatened by them. Practice better play better, win some championships. It's not just about 2016 but also about the future of the program. Start the fire and pass the torch, that's what JRM and his crew is doing.

Player motivated teams are as good as it gets for competitive athletes and the Vols now have many.
