Redemption for Jalen Hurd

The problem with your theory OP, is that Hurd really isn't that good. I don't care what offensive system you play in, 3.7 yards per carry is terrible on the college level.

This all day. He can come back any time, but I would not put him in the lineup ahead of Kelly or Carlin. No more wasted downs

The last I heard, he hadn't signed with an agent and hadn't requested a release to go to any particular destination. I know that some will roast me for this but it's cool. A group of friends were discussing where he might possibly go in the upcoming draft (if at all) and this thought came to me. The best possible situation for him at this point is to go to CBJ and the team and apologize, and beg to be given another chance. He needs to explain that he let some people get in his head and that he made a huge mistake. He also needs to let it be known that he will do whatever it takes to earn the trust of his teammates and coaches, as well as show a willingness to do whatever he can for the benefit of the TEAM. If he came back for his senior year and played inspired, unselfish football, splitting carries as John Kelly's back up, he could redeem himself in the eyes of his team, most of Volnation, and NFL GM's. He would also still become UT's career rushing leader. Flame away.

It's clear you are doing some kind of drug that causes hallucinations and fantasies.

No. Not flaming here. Just why? He messed up. His redemption can come on some d2 teams dime.

Hurd's YPC was largely effected by 2 very important factors:
a) play calling (very predictable)
b) line blocking ("look for the hole......what hole?")

Both sucked for him which negatively affected his production. Having said that, he might have become #1 in rushing at UT despite the multi-level dysfunction.

He may be waiting to see who the new OC will be.

I'd add a few more factors....lack of burst/acceleration, poor balance, not good in the open field and average top end speed. Neither Kamara nor Kelly had issues finding and getting through holes that Hurd just couldn't.

We can all agree that Hurd wasn't a great fit for the offense, there's no doubt about that. But we also have to acknowledge that Hurd simply wasn't as good as his billing. Both Kamara and Kelly have been more effective, more productive runners at Tennessee.

Guice and Chubb disagree.

Neither of those backs are H backs. They are TBs. H backs play in the slot and are used as blockers and to get out behind the linebackers for short passes which can be turned into big yardage plays. They are possession receivers. Hurd can certainly fill the bill as an H back. He can block and catch passes afterwhich he should get some additional YAC as he is a powerful runner and hard to bring down.

You made my year you came back. Thank you. The train keeps on wrecking. You are like gas on a fire. You help jalen so much.

not being close to the situation, I'd guess the bridges are burned, relationships soured, trust destroyed and respect dissolved. No way he comes back at this point.

I would need to see him as a lead blocker before crowning him.

Very good pass blocker. Looked good in the limited reps where he was used as a lead blocker for Kamara. Didn't happen a lot though.

The thing that makes Hurd really attractive to me are the "other stuff" that RBs are not normally rated on by the masses. Pass protection and pass receiving was very good I thought.

Hurd-

3.9 ypc vs App State
4.1 ypc vs Ohio

KB, that's certainly not the hard part of the schedule. But even in those two games he was stuffed at our behind the los way more than should have been. Our OL got manhandled by Appy. That was hard to even write, but still sadly true.

Hand him the rock 3 times on average and it's a first down, not terrible.

Except it doesn't really work that way, does it? Using that logic, Hurd gains 11 yards on his 3 carries while Kamara gets 17 and Kelly 19.

So you can plod down the field with Hurd and see him huffing & puffing at the opponent's 35-yard line, or you can have Kamara & Kelly standing in the end zone on the same number of carries.

By any definition 3.7 ypc is terrible, especially for a starter. SEC teams averaged 4.96 yards per carry in 2016, and that includes QB sacks. The top 10 RBs averaged 6.0 ypc.

I went to my first Tennessee game ever in the season opener against App State. I was extremely excited for the Vol walk and it was an experience I'll never forget, especially shaking the players hands. One thing made me pretty upset though,I never saw Jalen in the Vol walk. JH has been my favorite player since he stepped on campus and I really wanted to shake his hand/get a picture of him you know all that good stuff. I saw pretty much every player except for him...is this common for a player to skip it?

There is a reason he didn't get selected as a captain by his teammates. Told me all i needed to know when captains were announced. Some may say but he was only a junior...so was Alvin Kamara. Look at his history...only wants the limelight for Jalen...doesn't care about the team

We had 2 other backs that ran behind the same Oline in the same offense and averaged 6 yds a carry. Sorry, but Hurd is not that good.

You're really over simplifying it. Hurd in Bama's or LSU's system would run for around 1600 yards. Hurd did not fit Butch's system but he is an excellent RB

Has not been confirmed but CFA coming in during the SC game is pretty telling about all that IMO
He didn't quit on his team.... He said F$&@ you to butch jones in middle of Georgia game and was told to sit for that game and Texas A&M... And this is not a source this directly from a player on the team.... Family friends.... He said and I quote, "FU&@ YOU you need me Butch" and he got benched directly after that.... So yes he quit on his team and the coaching staff quit on him... For very good reason. You can have an attitude and be a great player but the moment your performance slips you can't... Great stats equ great tolerance... Poor stats equals poor tolerance.

Has anybody ever confirmed that Hurd quit in the middle of any game, or is that just a Volnation rumor? Honest question. Please link to an article or cite a specific post from an insider if there's any evidence, direct or circumstantial, that Hurd ever quit in the middle of a game.
Yes I can confirm it.

But he played on special teams later in the GA game.
