Recruits talk about possibility of Gruden

The info I got is this so TIFWIW. I work with someone whose spouse (they live in Tampa) is friends with/went to med school with the team doc for the TB Bucs. Team Doc is friends with Jon and Cindy Gruden still, run in same circles in Tampa and all that. He has not talked about it directly with JG but says he doubts seriously Gruden gets back into football, at least at the college level. There is nothing "pulling" Cindy "back home" and they really love their situation in Tampa. Nice home on the water, great gig with MNF...they love being in Tampa. Yep, I know, this is about 3rd hand info but sounds plausible. I would love for Gruden to show up at UT, but we might ought to try to focus on who is #2 and #3 choice.

Prospects can't help but hear the talk in Tennessee. When they hear Jon Gruden's name, they take notice.

"That would be great," safety Jalen Tabor from Washington (D.C.) Friendship said when asked of the possibility that Gruden could be hired to replace third-year coach Derek Dooley. "It would be a bonus."

Jalen Tabor is among many prospects considering Tennessee, but recruits are wary if a coaching change comes about.
Tabor, a 2014 Watch List prospect, has said Tennessee is firmly in his top five, along with Alabama, Maryland, Ohio State and Florida.

Gruden's name continues to be a topic of conversation as the Volunteers struggle. Tennessee is 3-5 and 0-5 in the SEC. Dooley has received much of the scrutiny and criticism.

When asked how much a Gruden hiring might help recruiting, Tabor said "A lot."

Fellow ESPN Watch List defensive back Todd Kelly Jr. from Knoxville (Tenn.) Webb has heard much of the talk about a potential coaching change at Tennessee. He's also heard Gruden's name mentioned.

"Word is that he is the man to hire but that would be the fourth coach at UT I think in the last five years," Kelly Jr. said.

Tennessee fired Phillip Fulmer as head coach in 2008. He was replaced by Lane Kiffin, who left for USC following one season. Dooley was hired in January 2010.

When asked specifically about Gruden, Kelly Jr. said, "I really don't know how much about what he would bring to the university. If it did happen, though, then I think people would be fired up about the program again like any school would be with the hiring of a new coach."

Until then, uncertainty reigns with Tennessee football recruiting.
I have no problem being vocal about this. If UT has to fill dump trucks up with cash, we will be far ahead by doing so. Not only safety's and defensive players, but also future quarterbacks receivers and rb would be signing with us. He is just the man to bring excitement and quality recruits back on the hill and that translates into wins. Most likely he would bring his father in to be the OC from the Cinci. As gifted as Bray and our receivers are, they would at least be given one year to learn and develop, which they have been cheated out of thus far, as have many other recruits. Polardy also comes to mind. Also until Jay Graham got here, running backs were stagnant and not developing. Furthermore, what good prospect is going to pick UT under these circumstances, knowing his chances in developing into a nfl prospect and becoming a success are remarkably lower here than other schools. Gruden gives the University, the fans and the athletes their best chance to succeed

True, never put all your eggs. Well u know. But Gruden has shown interest in this job the missing piece is money and it could well remain the problem. But make no mistake Gruden will listen and if Tenn opens the vault, he will be the next coach in Knoxville.

Heard similar information from one of Gruden's former roommates at UT. Mama's very happy with his current job.

We can get back to out talenting people. His scheme is ridiculously complex and would need some simplification. He would get the absolute highest effort out of every player on the roster. When you make plays ESPN is forced to show the highlights. It's coming after the season regardless of what happens. Fan base is tired of Dooley and will not be satisfied until he is gone.

Yeah, it sounds like Gruden has such a candy ass sweet job of no stress, no staying up late at night on the phone talking to top recruits, laying out game plans, finding coaches to help out with the rebuilding and all the headaches of finding ways of winning each & every game every week...he stays in Tampa with Cindy making millions from his ESPN show & MNF show with less stress of being a Head college football coach. TN would be better off getting Bob Stoops to come take over this sinking ship who has experience in the SEC of coaching players & being successful.

7-5 is an improvement, doesn't matter who it came from.......outside Alabama......UT was in it to win it. So, the standard here is.......if it ain't a W, then your a LOSER....pretty much sums up all the attempts to post a "Fire Dooley" thread with a different twist and different title.....let the bashing begin. The fan base has turned into a bunch of mattress burning rednecks anyway, so, I don't give a rat's a$$ what any of the anti-vols think.

Go Vols!

Geeez louise, talk about a massive mancrush, LOL!

This is so full of hype and MISinformation I hardly know where to start, LOL.

Everyone has known for 2 decades that nobody had anything to say about what players Oakland got except for the old man until he died so Gruden did NOT build the Raiders AND it was pretty funny how FAST he let Gruden get out of town and away from the Raiders.

Gruden also did NOT build anything at Tampa Bay...He walked in and took over the team that TONY DUNGY took years to build and won the SB ring with the Tony Dungy team.

Funny that after that 1 good season Gruden led the Bucs consistently DOWN, DOWN, Down until the owner FIRED Gruden for being a total Failure.

As we all know Tony Dungy then went on to Indy and led them to a Superbowl win and he totally dominated the AFC South Division and had 1 of the winningest NFL programs of the times.

The thing that Gruden has proven best at is being a talking head on MNF or when talking to QB's while they're passing time and waiting to be drafted and all those young QB's love that because they get some TV time to get their names known better and they get PAID to be on Grudens little show...That's known as sports showbiz folks.

On MNF there's always people beside Gruden will all his little comment cards neatly typed up and watching plays to give Gruden the right cards at the right times...That's called Directing folks.

On the Gruden QB shows it's all laid out and pre-directed so that everything runs smoothly and then Gruden cal also use his teleprompter to read off of to lessen the mistakes and keep things flowing along....You know, the teleprompter like barak oDUMBa always uses so he won't stick his foot in his mouth like he always does when he doesn't have a teleprompter to read off of, LOL!

Watch the end of every MNF game and you'll always see the Directors and assistants listed just like you'll see after every Gruden QB show.

Yes people, football games ARE showbiz and they're all scripted and directed to make an enjoyable show for the fans so they keep on raking in the $$$.

If you see Gruden on MNFand he's wearing a orange and white tie...don't get excited because he's only supporting Peyton and the Broncos, LOL!

Please tell me Grudenites....WHERE has Gruden gotten all his college football experience as a HC, a OC, a DC or a RC and who were his biggest college recruits and how many conference or national championships has Gruden won?

VFL...GBO!!!
Are you saying UT should go after Dungy? If so, I'd think we'd all be in agreement. :dance2:
Way to go, I'm with you. "Hire Dungy!!"

How many years does Gruden get, before your bashing him calling for his head???

He would probably make it six games in and then the rumors would start to roll down the hill. Just like it always does. Wonder why Randy Shannon hasn't made the blogs this year? Oh well.... old news.:dance2:

Yep,

high profile, big name, big money, proven coach like that should be able to turn this thing around in six games.

If not.... OFF WITH HIS HEAD!

Standard operating procedure around here. IMO

Still thinking gruden is unrealistic, as is expecting dooley to be back after the stadium is only 75% full for most of the rest of the season.

Gruden would immediately get kids interest and get them on campus which is going to sell itself. Half the battle is just gettting the kids to see what you have to offer. He would
be a homerun hire as far as recruiting if we could land him.

Maybe i'm one of the few that doesn't see this as a huge rebuild like others are making it out to be? I think we could compete immediately for the east with a good coach.

The likelihood of John Gruden coaching at UT is IMO slim.

1st of all, I say Dooley will still be here next season.

2nd of all, Gruden will coach in the NFL if at all.

answer one question? i keep asking it but no one ever answers. WHY DIDN'T DUNGY WIN THE SUPER BOWL IN TAMPA?

do you honestly think indy won because of dungy? you don't think he loaded his wagon on to mr manning and mr manning won it. you don't watch the games do you?
GBO VFL

Hey so your saying like all the others that only losing is the coaches fault and winning is the result of a player, SMH.
