I know I'm jumping the gun here, but it looks like Charlie Strong is out next coach. A guy in the rumors thread said recruits are already tweeting about UT visits if Strong is the guy.

Can we get any info from recruits on Strong and how he impacts our class in this thread? I'm not a big tweeter.

*Edit* So far:

Vic Wharton pulling for Strong.

Jalen Ramsey just saw Graham and is pleased the staff is changing.

It is believed that Jason Hatcher will de-Committ from USCW and follow Charlie Strong to UT. Im sure he will help our chances with James Quick and the DB White from Louisville Trinity as well.

Personally think Strong was hired after the Vandy game.

Also, believe he has held off some recruits that he had coming to UL so he could have them at UT.

Think he will pull quite a few really good recruits and keep the "good ones" we have now.

I expect at least a top 15 class with alot of voids on D filled.

I'm really excited about this hire and think people are going to be stunned how well he does here.

First two statements assume consipracy theory characteristics, so not really on board with those

I do think he will succeed here and I'm real excited about the hire too ... Defense wins the big games

I expect some stud defensive recruits

I have been a member here for a while but don't post much, just read a lot but for what it's worth, when Carl Lawson was asked about how firm he was with Auburn today after Malzahn was hired he said, "I'm not gonna comment on that one." If CCS indeed becomes our coach I hope he makes Lawson a high priority recruit.

I heard two things in the presser that lead me to believe what I said.

1) He said there would be no firm hired for a coaching search

2) Coach would have SEC experience


None of the coaches (none of them) other than strong have this.

It leads me to believe he slipped and went into Strong's resume knowing already who the hire was.


This would also explain why UL recruiting died this fall even while they are having their best year and on the way to the Sugar.

I could be wrong but the presser was weird.

Larry Fedora was UF's OC when Charlie was the DC.

Everybody said #1 though about Gruden, and I really believe Strong just flipped a kid from Ole Miss a couple of days ago.

If you hire Strong, it will be a great hire. You have my congratulations in advance, and I am looking forward to a really heated UF/UT rivalry.

However, holding back on recruits having accepted another job would be extremely unethical if not illegal. From what I have heard, that is not how Charlie rolls. Do you think you are hiring Lane Kiffen again?

No. But I think he shut down recruiting in some aspects.

I could be wrong though. It wouldn't be the first time.

Hell, before I fall asleep tonight I'm sure my wife will mention 3 other things I did wrong.

Just curious Neocon, but how exactly would a coach hold off on some recruits?

Did he just not contact them? Not sure how that would help him now if he didn't even have a relationship with them.

Did he try to recruit them, but not real hard? Same issue as above.

Did he actually hint to them that he may be leaving? There is NO way this would have stayed quiet.

Just how does a coach accomplish what you are suggesting?

3* recruit wr from NC Corey Cooper which has offers from all over and is currently committed to louisville. He will probably come to TN if CHARLIE STRONG DOES.
