Recruiting

What is it gonna take for us to start getting back up in the top 10 in recruiting. And How did butch stay there and suck on the field and pruitt not recruit as good as him so far and his recruits product better results. Recruiting makes no since to me! Look at Georgia they get alot of the 5* talent and they would be right up there with Alabama with on field results but they find a way not to.

The recruiting rankings can be over rated , as it was in butches case. Recruit a whole bunch of highly ranked skill players ...but do very little in the lineman category . You will have a highly rated recruiting class and a team that cant compete in the SEC. Recruit a bunch of highly ranked skill players that do not fit or mesh with you scheme and you will have a highly ranked class that maybe cant translate to team football.

Winning games is step one , but the main factory is to get guys to the NFL . After you start getting guys to the NFL , you build an NFL machine ...like Bama . Like Ohio state . Like Miami was in days long gone. Like UT was in the 80s = early 2000's. That is what a lot of the kids come for is the NFL dream.

Pruitt has developed the players , many to near their highest potential. That is the key for me . Find the right body types and skill set for your program , find the right individuals that fit your program in terms of mentality and attitude, and develop them . I would not worry about recruiting rankings ...worry about developing the guys we get to make it to the big leagues. "buildit and they will come"

Answer = WINNING!

The more we do of that, the better we will recruit. Pretty simple really.

First year or two you can promise playing time, after that, you have to show wins. Butch stacked up on guys for star value it seemed, but he couldnt develop them and his system didnt work for SEC ball.

Puitt and staff have world class resumes of developing players into NFL draft picks. Now that Pruitt has gotten his newbie HC sea legs, as the wins keep coming, you will see better and better recruiting. Again - this staff has THREE 24/7 national recruiters of the year on staff - one of them Pruitt himself and Nieds actually won HERE in Pruitts first year. If that isnt promising, I dont know what to tell you. Foundation work isnt flashy but it sets the base for everything else.

Lets win out and I will bet you that we pick up an absolutely great class of recruits, that turn out to be mostly booms with few busts as we go forward. these guys know how to chose talent and how to coach it up.

A close friend who is and has been for years is a large donor to the UT program told me he attended a function with another friend of his at Alabama last winter and met many of their coaches. One coach told him that CJP is the greatest evaluator of talent he's ever seen and is considered by most to be the best in college football today. So I trust that Jeremy is recruiting to our need first and then to what his eye and evaluation tells him. I like seeing us in the top 10 at the end on the recruiting season too BUT I think CJP and staff know far better than I do about what recruits we need.
