Recruiting

I may be way off here but I think alot of our "offensive" stats are having NFL guys at QB, WR, WR, WR, OL, OL, OL, OL. Coaching is decent on offense. Play calling is suspect most games. Players playing not to get hurt some times. 500 yards a game on offense looks great. The problem is we are the same kind of team we make fun of out in the PAC10. We are the Texas Tech of the Leach era. 1st one to 60 wins. That is a recipe for losing in the SEC.

our def is terrible and we have made some critical mistakes in games.this i will agree with.

if dd is taking the blame for the def.why can't he get the credit for the off.he made 2 good hires to make them better.
you have a point. But also Dooley admitted to calling passes on most of those 3rd and shorts but still everyone blames Chaney. It's bad and I hate that we are all split like this as a fan base, I prayed Dooley would be the answer. But he has not been.

Think Al Golden wants out of UM? Good, young coach w/ recruiting ties he could bring form Fla.

I would not be surprised if he did want out. I don't think I would hire him for the job at Tennessee. He did alright at Temple, but has not looked very good at all at Miami. IMO, his recruiting does not look very good at all. Miami is a place that recruits itself. I know all about the scandal stuff, but kids like Miami for whatever reason(empty stadium). I would like to see him winning at a higher clip with the Florida recruiting grounds and playing in the ACC.

other teams have the same mistakes but our def.is killing us.if our def doesn't have these problems,we are having a completely different conversation.we would be talking about what a good job dd is doing.that is just my opinion.

If we would have won 2 of those games ..I would agree us as fan base would feel better. But it being year 3 and not winning any SEC games is bad.

WTF are you talking about? We were fifth (Rivals) in the SEC last year (17th in the nation). 2011 we were 6th (SEC) and 13th in the nation. Is that the bottom half. SMFH.

2013 at this point in the SEC
Scout 10th
Rivals 9th
ESPN not in the top 9 SEC or 25 nationally and that's as far down the list as I could go
247 10th

2012 in the SEC
Scout 9th
Rivals 5th
ESPN 7th
247 6th

2011 in the SEC
Scout 5th
Rivals 6th
ESPN 6th
247 6th

2010 in the SEC
Scout 6th
Rivals 5th
ESPN 5th
247 5th

2010 and 2011 were the best years and you are correct he was not in the bottom half. In 2012 he was in the bottom half. 2013 isn't over but we're way behind. The trend doesn't look good and so far the very best was just above the bottom half of the SEC. I stand corrected but middle of the pack as his best effort thus far isn't going to get it done in this league.

Your trend is that 2012 was slightly worse than 2011?

UT's classes have started slow every year, so I don't think looking at 2013 right now is worthwhile. Odds are it will look very different on signing day.

I don't see us making up the ground this year but obviously I cant predict the future. Even if CDD pulls this year's class all the way up to mid-pack this year it's not good enough.

If you think it is good enough then why have we started 0-5 In the SEC again? You can't have it both ways. Either the recruiting isn't good enough or the coaching isn't good enough or both.

I noticed the caliber of LB we were getting commitments from go down last spring. Are we still being given any consideration by any of the bigtime LB's that are still on the board? Looks like they may get(cb/s) Bell,(DL)Toby Johnson,(RB)Green(maybe),(WR) M North and (OL) Reeve Koehler. That Should put them pretty close to Top 12-15. Need db's and a replacement for Lathers.

We actually lost two highly rated LBs at the last minute last year. That really hurt us this year, as they would've provided athletic, although young, depth.

Ironically, Arkansas allegedly stole one from us by using the negative recruiting tactic of saying that Dooley wouldn't last here another year. They sold him coaching stability (among other things), and then Petrino got himself fired.

Recruiting classes:

2010 9th(Kiffin landed alot of this class)
2011 13th
2012 17th
2013 (So far 21st).

Notice a pattern here? Recruits are just not going to keep buying into the BS talk. Winning matters.

by your stats....we will still be a top 25 recruiting class? Maybe we go back to #9 the following year? Or #29?

For the record: I support UT everything. I will not punish a student athlete for not bringing ME a sec championship. Just give it your best! Thats all! Not a lower expectation, but a real expectation. Some kids pan out, others don't. Thing in life is to get up and give 100% everytime.

GBO

Seems we are trying to sneak in on a couple more quality guys. One S with no offers, and a WR who has offers from SMU, Utah St, Florida Atl, and Hawaii.

Maybe they just started their recruitment last weekend. Maybe we should just offer 25 kids from Knoxville and be done with it.

Recruiting looks to be in trouble this year. Hart had better decide what he is going before kids just pick someone else. Waiting to see what happens at UT may not be something alot of kids/families want to do.

We hire Chavis&we will open up Lousiana! John Chavis 4 H.C. 2013! Go Big Orange!Seriously why is NOONE on here talking about John Chavis?

I would think mainly because John Chavis hates to recruit. IMO, your HC has to be the best salesman on the staff to make the final in home visit and seal the deal. Chavis has never been that type of guy.

The fact that some fans act like that because one factor in recruiting (in state talent) isn't in our favor is this HUGE disadvantage I think is wrong. Is it important-of course. But we also have the best of facilities. The highest recruiting budget in the nation. We play in the best conference in the country. A huge storied stadium. We have as rabid a fan base there is. Just because EVERY SINGLE FACTOR is not in our favor is not an excuse to be mediocre. Be honest, wouldn't you rather live in Knoxville than Tuscaloosa??? No program has every factor in their favor. That's life
