With the surge of recruiting commits this past week, the VOLS have moved to #6 in RIVALS latest rankings and #3 in the SEC. IMHO that's about where I expect us to finish inside the top 10.
Thoughts VOL NATION?

C'mon dude, Our class is ranked highly at this point purely on the number of commitments. As other teams fill up, they will pass us based on average player ranking.
Hopefully our staff projects kids that will have big senior seasons and improve in rankings or we will WIN A LOT OF GAMES THIS FALL and flip home state kids.

at this point rankings mean very little obviously. We can finish top 10 easily or drop down to 15. Just depends on how we close with the elite kids. Several of the kids we have committed now won't be on our list come feb but that's the way it always works. I think i implore this every stinking year but let me say it again...just enjoy the ride.
Nnnnnnnnno, Kirby. UF? Puleeez! I sorta'do and sorta' don't go along with your hypothesis overall, but you're apparently expecting the gayduhs to overachieve exponentially. I'm tossing that one out figuring you may have been hung over or something when you posted that. Not sure about all 6 of those others winding up ahead of UT (BTW, you left out tOSU and popular choice UM). Why? Concerning those other teams you and I mentioned, you're leaving out the fact that a growing number of 5*s and noteworthy 4*s won't sign with anybody until the drama's reached its pinnacle, which will occur on NSD. That's next February. We've got to consider those teams' records at season's end to determine if most of those other 8 programs are indeed more likely to sign higher ranked rosters than UT. I'd say throw out half of them just on that criteria. Don't you think the Vols will win...say...at least 10 games? 9 just wouldn't cut it and 10 possibly would be close...barring at least the SECC. We've got to also consider the earlier signees naturally levitating toward the teams which are getting lots of attention throughout the season...looking hot and being hyped....you know...glam programs of the moment. If our Vols make an impressive mark on those first half-dozen games, then let's figure at least 2 of those 5*s will be coming on board prior to the USCjr game, with an additional handful of 4*s...collectively some time before season's end; even more with an SECe banner in December. Those current 3*ish commits will become more and more nervous as the season progresses (gradually being pared off), provided the Vols are notably impressive at least up to the bammer game. I don't read minds other than my own, but mine tells me a lower than #8 ranking should indicate more than a pair of Ls are on the record by that point. Finally: I don't hold faith in the mindset that gobs and gobs of 5*s are necessary for NCs, but the mere fact that a program can attract the most coveted players out there highlights those most desirable programs which are inviting them to join. IE it's a true luxury to cherry pick through nothing but the most-likely-to-succeed crowd. Butch is a clean closer and if Shoop's D becomes the orange swarm that's being predicted and if DeBord's fast and physical offense meets its expectations as a terrifying juggernaut for DCs, then we can/should expect no worse than a #5 composite ranking on NSD. Let's never forget: At the end of the day...winning championships trumps all else. AMIRIGHT?That will change drastically once more teams like Clemson, OU, LSU, FSU, Auburn, UF, & USC get to the 20 commit mark. If I had to guess I'd say we finish 10th-15th. Top 10 would be nice but realistically we are a bit behind that mark. Even if we land Akers, Chandler, Smith, Gibbs, Foster, etc (who are all big targets) then we're still hovering right outside the top 10 (based on past years' results).
True, true, true. The bouncing baby caveat here is......at least some of us goobers married better lookin' babes than did poor ol' Mr. Li'l Hands. My avatar(Eyes left) is...unlike many other babes' shots stuck on there via "purdy girls I seen on Yahoo News"...my wife. Yessir. Laura's even Slavanian in family lineage, like Melania...just more beautiful and definitely more intelligent. She'll be jumpin' and screamin' bloody murder beside this same ol' Vol come September 24th as our Vols whoop them gayduhs. Go Vols and our bodacious babes-in-orange! Let's see some of your VFL babes, fellow VN men. Yes?Melania looks MUCH better than ANY Goober in HERE!!!

As it had the past three recruiting cycles, '08. Right? How'd that turn out? I laid out the criterion for achieving a top 5 finish. Your expostulation will nonetheless be correct, though .......but only if the Vols don't meet or exceed all the hype they're still catching. This year is a critical one for the nay-saying, competing recruiters who're impressing upon this group of youngsters; re-re-reiterating that Butch can't win the big ones, etc., etc., etc. Clemson's the most glaring example here. Let's say the Tigers lose one or two early and the Vols look like world beaters during that same period. Now who's to say Tee, et al, wouldn't flip to the true orange team? With expectations at least met...not even surpassed...then I could definitely foresee a top 5 finish on NSD. AMIRIGHT?:rock::rock::rock::rock::rock::rock:A lot of the top recruits have already put out their top 5 list of teams they are considering. We are on a few but nearly as many as FSU, USC, Bama, UM, tOSU, UGA, etc
