Recruiting rankings thread

Bummer. I looked back at some of our other classes where they did so I thought they still did.

ESPN began ranking JUCOs last year (or maybe it was the year before). As I recall, it was pretty late in the recruiting cycle when they finally released JUCO ratings last year. I don't recall exactly when they did though.

OK. Thanks. Maybe all of our JUCOS will get ranked sooner or later which will really help our class ranking.

I believe ESPN ranked JUCO's last year about a month after their seasons ended IIRC....basically we won't see them ranked by ESPN anytime soon

does ESPN count every commit in their rankings? or just top 20?

NCAAF How we determine our class rankings - ESPN

The use a weighted system...all commits are counted, but quantity doesn't outweigh quality.

The articles explains as follows:

"There is a formula that is used that takes into account our grades and position rankings to guide us when evaluating each program, but it is only part of the process. Working strictly off a mathematical formula can present a short-sighted view and our focus has always been on the program's big picture. Quantity doesn't always mean the same as quality because, simply put, having a big class does not always equate to a high ranking."

"Similarly, having the same quantity of a prospects at a certain star range doesn't always equally compare. When looking at classes, we look at more than just how many stars a prospect might have and take into account their numerical grade as well. For example, a class with a group of three-stars who grade out at 78 and 79 is going to carry more weight than a class with an equal amount of three-stars but who are mainly in the 72-73 range."

"While looking at commits and player rankings are key, there is a human element to the game of football and there is also a human element to the class rankings as well. In addition to utilizing a formula, we also place an important emphasis on roster examination as well. After looking at the rankings of players picked up, we also examine how a program addressed its needs, recruited in advance of early NFL departures and if it brought in players whose strengths found during film study fit the team's schemes and philosophies."

"The key thing to remember is we won't truly be able to tell how good a class is for a few years, but in the here and now, we feel our approach is the only fair way to evaluate and immediately rate a class."

That's how I understand it. I don't see how they factor in all the other "human" variables they mention...may be more or less a non-factor though when all is said and done I guess.

i bet the human variables are their favorite teams. thats why Michigan is ranked so high in their rankings

SIAP - our current rivals point total is 2253, which would have finished 12th nationally last season, just ahead of Georgia who signed 33 players.

And that's if we don't get another commit. This is going to be a for sure top 10 finish, but very likely around the top 5.

We'll need to finish with 4*s and get 1 5* to finish top 5 imo. The top 20 commits are all that count in Rivals.

I see today our recruiting class slipped to 3rd with ESPN behind the Bammers.

What you should be looking at is the AVERAGE per player not the total points, at this point. The SEC says you can only sign 25 and the rankings only consider the top 25. UT has more commits so they have a higher number total but several SEC schools have a higher average per player. That means unless those schools start taking 2-3 star guys they are going to pass UT when they fill their class. CBJ has done a good job of recruiting but don't expect UT to be in the top 5, might get in the top 10.
