Maybe not but he does need to make sure his "not caring" doesn't run fans away from TBA. No reason to make statements that make that a possible reaction.
I'm sure he wasn't happy with Des for saying it, by I'm also sure Des didn't mean itt how fans have taken it and that Barnes is well aware of what Des meant. Barnes isn't going to now go out of his way to contradict what Des said simply to appease fans, that's all I'm saying.
Except for the fact of gone out on the road and recruit lol
Dude him going on a couple plane rides isn't gonna remove the perception that exists. The fact that Des even said it is telling. He better win next year or fans are gonna turn on him. That article is the crumbled up newspaper underneath a stack of dried up brush pile. Fans standing by with a box of matches waiting to light it up.

May not change the perception but it continues to make that theory even more incorrect each and every time.
I think that statement has very little to do with the need for him to win next year, but if you feel like it's the main reason you keep on thinking that.
I'm sure Barnes doesn't care. Barnes not caring seems to be a reoccurring theme.
Barnes has accomplished more himself than the UT program has over its entire history. I trust him to do it his way - not some guy that sits on the internet all day thinking he has coached and recruited college basketball before.
What I am saying is that once people turn on you they start looking for reasons to justify their feelings. That article is exhibit A for disgruntled fans next year when we are hovering around .500 in February.
He's got lots of reasons he needs to win. It's year 3. He's getting $2.4m to coach. He hasn't done much on the trail so future doesn't look at bright as it could. He got fired from his last job so he needs to prove his worth. Attendance is awful compared to what it once was. His team collapsed down the stretch.
All of those are reasons but that article is going to be very detrimental to him if he doesn't go dancing next year.
