@Volquest_Rob: This would be interesting for sure RT @TheCAJasonSmith Tennessee has asked for Dominic Woodson's release. #BigDom could end up in Knoxville.

If Dom was "ran off" from Memphis, as it appears very possible he was, then he could be eligible to play this season. With that said, supposedly the plan Memphis put into place was to have him go JUCO for a year to make room for Kedren Johnson and Skal, and bring back Dom next year, so not sure I see it likely Pastner grants his release.

Guy would likely cause a few headaches and sleepless nights, and at 6'10" 300lbs likely needs to get in much better shape to be effective in Tyndall's system, by the does have talent.

If I'm him there's no way I just go play at a juco for a year while they supposedly hold a spot for me.

I doubt he does either, I don't think they really cared if they kept him or not, their biggest thing was freeing up scholarships and they're in good shape in the post.

The thought was send him there and come back next year, but in reality they probably knew as soon as he entered the recruiting world again he would be gone and that was ok by them.

As for the type of player, reminds me a lot of Renardo Sydney from Mississippi State. All the talent in the world, but trouble off the court, mostly for dumb things, and has issues controlling his weight. I get why you take a chance on the kid if you're Tyndall, but as I mentioned above, definitely risking a lot of headaches and sleepless nights.

I know UT needs size in a hurry but i'm not sure Dom is worth the gamble, dude will cause more problems than his talents solve.

Ifs not like Woodson has stolen or even gotten suspended for drugs. It sounds like an attitude problem. He's been suspended for cussing and fighting a football player haha.

I don't understand how he would be eligible immediately. I thought that if you transfer from any other D1 school that you had to wait a year unless it is a hardship, school has no post season due to APR, or Grad trans, and he is none of those. The reason he was going to SWCC is that it is a Jr College, and he wouldn't have to sit out a year. I aint by no means a NCAA expert, but that was what I thought the rules were.

There is apparently a new rule related to players being cut or "run off " . Their scholarships are not being renewened by the school and thus they are elgible to play immediately. Rob Lewis confirmed this was the case.

Apparently there are other schools involved including Indiana.

It's called the "Run-Off" rule, and it allows for immediate eligibility for a player who is run off by a coach, but is in good academic standing.

The school filing the waiver must provide:

1. Documentation that the individual would not have been allowed to return to the previous school for reasons out of his control.

2. Written statement from applicant school proving the student is in good academic standing and meets all progress-towards-degree requirements.

3. Written statement from previous institution indicating support of the request to transfer.

Essentially, the student must be in good academic standing, have the blessing of both schools, and not have the option to return to the original school. Think Wes Washpun for a Tennessee-related example (though the rule didn't exist at the time for him, he would have been a prime candidate).

It sounds like Dom asked for his release so that he could transfer before the school year started. From what I've read that wouldn't qualify him to use this exception.

More to the point, I'm not sure that we can find this out, as his academic info is protected. May have to wait for the NCAA.

From what Martin, Parrish and Smith reported this plan was in place between Pastner and Woodson for awhile. The purpose being to free up scholarships for Kedron Johnson and a possible EE from Skal if his transfer is denied by TSSAA, much like Stokes.

If that is indeed the case, it would qualify as his scholarship not being renewed by Memphis, which falls perfectly under the "run-off" rule. As for his academics, if you believe the press release from memphis he is in good academic standing, but who knows on that.

I do know that the schools in contact, South Carolina, Tennessee and Indiana plus more are all under the impression he will be eligible to play immediately.
