For those who dare to venture off of the topic of Dooley and his potential replacement, let's talk shop:

Here are the reasons that I think we beat Vandy. It doesn't really matter what reasons I give though, we always seem to lose. Anyways, here go...

Vandy's scoring defense: 16th nationally, 18 ppg.

This looks impressive on paper. As a Tennessee fan, we'd pass out to see a scoreline below 30, but let's have a closer look at what dynamic offenses Vandy has faced this year I will give team, and then national ranking for points:

USCe 41st
Northwestern 52nd
Presbyterian, DIV 2, but averaging 15.6 ppg, which would be around 123rd Div 1
UGA 26th
Mizzou 86th
FL 79th
AU 119th
UMASS 124th
KY 122nd
Ole Miss 59th

So, their vaunted defense is not as good as it seems, with 40% of their schedule being 119th or worse in scoring offense on the year nationally.

Any team that they have played who is ranked 52nd or better in scoring offense has beaten them this year. Tennessee is ranked 20th.

Vanderbilt's Offense: 83rd nationally, 25.6 ppg

Vanderbilt's offense has also gotten a nice ego boost from their weak schedule.

Against defensive cream puffs: (Presbyterian, KY, UMASS; combined 4-26) they average 49 ppg.

Against the rest of their opponents, who actually have a defensive pulse: (USCe, Northwestern, UGA, Mizzou, FL, Auburn, Ole Miss) they average 15 ppg.

How will it shake out?

TN defense vs. Vandy offense: Well, unbelievably, we must classify ourselves as a cream puff defense, and as bizarre as it sounds, can probably expect Vandy to put up 30+ points. If Zac Stacy is injured, then Vandy could be in trouble.

TN offense vs. Vandy defense: Though others give Vandy's defense props, I think that they will be badly exposed on Saturday, having their statistics inflated by terrible offensive teams. The only team that comes close to our scoring production is UGA... and they blew up for 48 against Vandy, accumulating 265 yards passing and a whopping 302 yards rushing.

In spite of this, on the year, they rank 57th nationally against the run, and 14th against the pass. Bray will need to be sharp, and he has been recently, and Chaney will need to call a balanced game utilizing the TE and short range passes to open up longer plays down the field. If he gets too excited early on, Bray may throw and INT or two and if that happens, he may hang his head and it will be a long day.

I agree we win. I also agree we have to run the ball. And we will our OL will dominate.
However, i went way out on a limb with this.
I say UT 27. Candy 17

Candy only scored 19 on Mizzou and their defense is not much better than ours. I also predict over 200 yds rushing.

Vandy is giving up almost exactly 4.0 ypc. To hit 200, we'd have to run it 50 times, if statistics hold up. Of course, Patterson can break that mold, but I'd be happy with 150 on 25 rushes personally. Bray will throw it at least 40 times.

Were Mizzou, USCjr, Georgia, Miss st all ranked highly on defense? we scored easily on everyone except Bama. Even the Gators were on their heels. We will kick the sh!t out of Vandy again. They have won twice in my lifetime. F Vandy... F vandy... F Vandy

Yes last week we got 153 yards on I think 32 rushes. About 4.8 per carry. So about 40 carries. Then 30 to 35 passes

Doesn't matter what's on paper. Dooley & staff will find a way to lose. They've done it week after week, so why should Vandy be any different?

Alright, I'll bite. In my heart of hearts, I think we win. I've thought that most games this season, though, and have been wrong. Somehow, I can't get over my optimism.

In the end, it's that I just don't respect Vandy whatever their record may be.

One thing I won't do is predict a score. We probably get 45+. I shudder to think what they get.

Thank nick, good job. The projected score is vandy 28 Tennessee 21. I think this will be another game in the 30s or 40s for both teams. I think Tennessee wins a 1 possession game. I'll be there in section U, I've convinced someone from Indianapolis to come down and watch their first real college football game. Their schedule couldn't work out for a Neyland trip this year, hopefully next year.

We could possibly lose. But to think that we would only score 21 is comical.

I'm just glad somebody is pointing out that Vandy has feasted on cupcakes in their wins. UT may lose...but I'm getting rather tired of the drooling over CJF and VU, considering their schedule.

Thanks Nick.

Nick, I love the write up, but I just hope we score more than they do. At this juncture, that is really the only break down needed. Mercy! :mf_surrender:

Unfortunately, last week's debacle removed all of my swag. If you asked me a week ago, I would laugh and say there is no way in Hades that Vandy can touch us. I would laugh off all of the Franklin talk, mention how we own Neyland West, etc.

Now, I just hope we win.

Like always..:)

Exactly. It's a fall tradition. My brother went to Vandy undergrad and UT grad school. He roots for Vandy when they play. Thankfully, he is coming back home next weekend for Thanksgiving where we will waych the game and I will be thankful for dealing the dorks their annual L.

My swag was removed late in the third quarter of the Florida game.

I still remained confident we would have a solid season, notwithstanding that loss. Then the Mississippi State game happened.

Then I thought at least we won't embarrass ourselves this year like we did last year with Arkansas, Kentucky, etc. Then the Alabama and Troy games happened.

Headed into last weekend's game, I thought, well, it won't be pretty, but at least we can out-talent everyone left on our schedule and be a respectable 7-5.

Then we lost in 4 OTs to an infinitely less talented team.

Now I have no idea.

My complete lack of respect for Vandy is the only thing that makes me think we can win.

Sad. Considering the talent on this year's team, there's no reason we should be in this spot.

That's exactly how it's been for me too. So disappointing.

Unfortunately, Dooley probably puts the final touches on his tenure at UT and loses to Vandy. Not losing to Vandy is the only expected thing he has done so far.
