Croom and Hurd should be back full go too.

Jordan Williams could certainly use the rest.

Ethan Wolf and Derell Scott have been limited also. Both should be good by then. (Assuming Scott sticks it out.)

I thought they had the 2nd best pass defense in the country? That would make their back end better than sub par. Maybe I misread that stat. ESPN said this would be one of the highest scoring games, but as usual, I think they're completely wrong and this will be very low scoring.

Saulsberry would be another big body to add to the rotation (twss), be nice to have him available as well.

I watched the Replay where they played Wisconsin:
Offense:
-Thy had much more success passing on Wisc. 3-4 defense. (At the time Wisc. Had a highly rated defense but we saw what OSU did to it)
-They seem to enjoy the TE in their offense a lot. Many wheel routes and route combos involving TEs
-QB is mainly a PP but can run if need be (One play Wisc rushed 3 and left the middle open and he scrambled for about 21 on a 3rd & 16
-Very good OLine on the left side but the RT and RG seemed to struggle against the OLBs rushing in.

Defense:
-Very Good interior line and DLine in general (Davis and Ott are very good)
-Honestly don't know how to feel about their LBs. Seem good against run but get lost on screens and quick hitting plays
-QB runs will be effective. They struggle with the Veer concept especially
-Safeties seemed out of position sometimes with PA passes but very good run stoppers

Overall very well coached but have many flaws like ourselves.

TaxSlayer Bowl SWAG

Panasonic gift suite and souvenir football.

What's a panasonic gift suite?

Basically, you're given an order form and you go into a room with a bunch of products displayed. Pick out what you want (up to the bowl limit) and they'll get it to you.

What's a panasonic gift suite?

It's their top of the line home theater setup.

Laserdisc player, 55" big screen, and a sweet stereo boombox.

I like how Aesius took a picture of the gear in his mancave and labeled it gift worthy.

Dude, don't talk smack about my big screen TV. That baby is top of the line.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some Slayer to blast on my boombox.

Prediction: I think speed and power is the name of this game, and Tennessee, barring any injuries over the next few weeks, should be able to win both of those battles. I think Iowa will have a hard time moving the ball, and Tennessee is effective with their speed on offense. I would expect a good deal of improvement for the OL and Hurd to have a big game. Dobbs doesn't need to do a whole lot, and plays the "game manager".

Iowa 20

Thanks Nick.
It's my belief that we'll be healed and rested up by game day and will be ready for them. I also think our O-line will be doing better by then. With our overall speed and our running game mixed in with some good passes I think we'll take this one. Vols 38 - Iowa 20

49-10 Vols. Scott, Hurd, and Dobbs all get 60+ yards and a TD running each. Lane adds a TD too. Berry houses the opening kick or the opening kick of the second half (whichever we get). Dobbs gets 250+ passing yards. 2 TDs, one to Wolf and one to Pig.

Defense gets 5+ sacks, and a few TOs.

We whoop dey ass!

Their RB is a fullback. I haven't seen much of them this year, but I doubt they can get the edge on us at all.

If you watch their games, what is hilarious is they run the stretch play a lot. It wouldn't surprise me if that RB runs a 4.9-5.0 40

You have to consider they play run oriented teams. They didn't have OSU, Mich State or Mich on the schedule.

Another good example. Minnesota beat Iowa 51-14 but only had 138 yards passing. Minn QB went 10/13 for 4 TDs

Do you think they would be 2nd in the country with our schedule?

LOL, does it matter? They're a p5 team with the 2nd best pass defense in the country. That, compared with our bad offense and good defense, means it'll be a low scoring game.

One final example. Iowa have up 400 yards passing to Northern Iowa. That same N Iowa team only had 250 passing yards against Hawaii

Shine your balls, :eek:hmy: lace up your clown shoes, and unbutton your top 3 buttons... we're going bowling!

For the first time since former head coach Derek Dooley's inaugural season, the Vols will be traveling over the holidays, and Tennessee fans can still discuss football and obsess over every little report from practice.

With most reports having the Vols in Memphis, Nashville, or Charlotte, it was a bit of a surprise to see them land in Florida. Few will complain, outside of the natives of those fine cities, as it is a good bowl in a good location.

Let's take a look at Iowa:

1. Oh so close: At first, you see that Iowa is 7-5 playing a Big 10 schedule and snicker. While their competition was pretty laughable (only Nebraska was ranked), they lost 4 of their 5 games by a total of 15 points. They played everyone tough, with the exception of Minnesota, so don't let their record comfort you too much.

2. To speed or not to speed?: For Iowa, the answer is "not to speed." The Big 10 is not necessarily known for having blazers on the field, and Iowa is no exception... maybe even worse than the average. I'm not going to pretend that I know all about Iowa's offense, but their fans have been lamenting their lack of speed, so I'm going to take their word on it.

3. Battle of the day: Without question, the best individual match-up is going to come between Derek Barnett and left tackle Brandon Scherff. Scherff is expected to be a first round draft choice in April, and Barnett does what Barnett does. This one will be fun to watch.

4. SEC Killer?: Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz is 3-1 against SEC opponents in bowl games. Wins against Florida, LSU and South Carolina are pretty impressive, but those wins came when Iowa was a bit more talented. However, year after year, we have watched the SEC lose bowl games inexplicably, pointed, and laughed. Let's not be on the end of that this season.

5. Closer than it seems?: Iowa and Tennessee are oddly similar in many statistics. Now granted, Tennessee built their season on the back of one of the toughest schedules in the nation, whereas Iowa played warm slaw, but the point remains. I'm not going to take the time to redo the stats, this guy has your stuff here.

6. Notes from GoVols09: Another poster has seen some of Iowa's games, so I will borrow his insight, and simply post it here:

-Their interior D Line is very good
-Offensive line is very good especially LT. I think their RT is substantially worse and I look for Maggitt to have a big day.
-Lack of speed on offense is very evident
-getting Iowa in third and long will be key. Their QB is bad when he had to throw
-Defense in the back 7 is sub par. Lack of lateral speed but linebackers are physical.
-Perfect matchup for our TEs and I expect the jet sweep will be utilized successfully
-Iowa plays every game close. I expect a 21-17 type game where we beat them worse than it shows
-Our conditioning will be an advantage, they will not keep up with our speed for 4 quarters.

Prediction: I think speed and power is the name of this game, and Tennessee, barring any injuries over the next few weeks, should be able to win both of those battles. I think Iowa will have a hard time moving the ball, and Tennessee is effective with their speed on offense. Not sure how you can pick UT to beat any team with a solid defensive line much less blow them out.

If you need a reminder of how much UT's offensive line has struggled just watch the Vandy or UTC games.

I hope UT beats them, but unless they find a couple of offensive tackles, it will be a real struggle.
