Head coach talk is all over the site. Let's check that at the door and talk the South Carolina Game in this thread please. :hi:

Keys to Victory:

1. Slow down Clowney:
He is the best defensive player in the country. For Tennessee to have a chance, they have to keep the defenders off of Bray so he doesn't panic and make bad decisions.

2. Utilize the mid-range passing game: Tennessee should use Rivera often, mixed in with some non-obvious screens and short crossing routes to get the ball out of the QB's hands quickly.

3. Which Shaw do we see?: He averages 18 throws per game. Outside of KY and Mizzou, he has not looked good throwing the ball. Our secondary is a weakness though, so we may get the KY and Mizzou version. Also, over 4 games, he has averaged 71.75 per game rushing. The other 3 games, he has averaged -3. He is not exactly Mr. Consistent. Once again... which Connor Shaw do we see? The secondary needs to play average ball and we have to set the edge up front to contain him when the play breaks down. I am not confident we can do either.

4. Slow down the run game: Marcus Lattimore is expected to start, though he has been banged up for weeks now. No matter what the commentators try to convince you of after he breaks off a 7 yard run, he is not the same back he has been in the past. After Lattimore (4.5 YPC) the next leading rusher is Shaw, whom we have discussed. SC averages 144.9 rushing per game. If we force Shaw to throw it, it should play to our advantage.

5. Force Turnovers: SC has turned the ball over 6 times in the last 2 weeks. Tennessee needs big defensive stops to take the crowd out of this game and put points on the board.

6. Sustained drives: Tennessee will need to tire out the defensive front of South Carolina with long drives that eat up lots of clock. This will also keep Shaw from getting into a rhythm. Chaney must be creative with his play calling and do a better job on 3rd downs. If he can do that. I think we can win this game.

7. The Unknown: Is he gone? Is this his last game? Does he save his job this week? No one really knows what is going on behind the scenes. If it is true that Dooley is gone, and the team knows this, they may mail it in... or they may try to send him out a winner... making it awkward if arrangements are nearly in place. If this is the chance to save his job, the team may rise up and get it done. Is the coaching staff in turmoil behind the scenes, fighting over the defensive letdowns, special team blunders and offensive play calling? No one knows. And this is the most important variable of all.

I question if JC knows what #2 is? JH admitted the ball he caught coming across the middle was not the route he was supposed to run. He said it was supposed to be a dig route, but he decided to just keep running, and actually caught the pass intended for ZR. I may have missed it, but i don't recall a single screen pass all season. TB has thrown a few short passes recently to the backs, but for the most part JC seems to go for broke (long passes or nothing), even on thiird and one :eek:hmy:

Did you see what Fla did to USC Saturday? If not heads up, you can watch the replay this Saturday, with one slight modification. Fla will be wearing maroon Saturday and USC white trimmed in orange.

USCe is coming off three consecutive extremely physical games against Georgia, @ LSU, and @ Florida. If we can't beat them this weekend, Dooley might not see November as UT's head coach.

I really don't give a **** anymore. We are the laughing stock of the SEC. I'll wear my orange, have a few laughs at our D. And drink a few well placed brews.

The problem with you guys is that you entertain a conscience and think you understand reality. The Vols just need to go out and have some fun. Not worry about all the e-coaches, e-spinners, e-commentators, e-ADs and just lay their ears back and make some plays!!

I am just sayin that must have been one big a water ski party this summer and so we know the team is up to some epic times.

The best part about a new coach is JC will be gone also. That's what gets me. We have a 3rd and 3 and throw the ball 30 yards down the field for a incomplete pass.

One of those Utah passes will score soon. You just wait.

If it's that dang miserable for everybody, turn off the TV, log out, and relax until a decision is made regarding Dooley. I would prefer to discuss what we have to do to win this game, and firing Dooley this week is not an option. :hi:

USCe's defense concerns me. Also, USCe's spread run game terrifies me. Other than that, I feel pretty confident.

In other words if they suspend their front 7 for the game, and change their offense to 3 kneels and a punt, we have a chance.

I say go to a run first offense, let the O-Line win the game. Give up the big play philosophy except for a shot a half and work the TE's and backs over the middle with slant routes. The O-Line is our strength. Bray, Hunter and Patterson have already shown they can not carry us and Patterson and Hunter have failed to reel in the long ball on several occaisions. Lane was dragging the Alabama D for 8 to 10 yard carries at times. Time to play to our real strenghts. Might give the D a breather too.

It sooo crazy to say this now. I mean yes the run game is now our strength, but before the season it was a big question. It blows my mind that we cannot throw the ball... I am not a coach so I don't know exactly what is going on with the pass game. Are the WRs not getting separation and do they even know which route to run ? Bad play calling by Chaney ? Bray getting happy feet and just tossing it out ? What seems to work is the intermediate balls. 8-15 yard curl route or slants. I mean my god we don't even use our TE's ! The one ball we ever throw to Reviera goes for 30 yards against GA and ALA . I just don't get it and its soo frustrating to watch.:ermm:

Offense
1. Go out and have fun
2. Protect Bray and keep up the good work in the running game
3. 100% 3rd down conversions on 3rd and 2 or less (RUN!!)
4. Bray spread the ball around, 2 catches a piece for CP, JH, ZRo, Pig, Dallas, and Rivera

Defense:
1. Contain Lattimore first
2. Contain Shaw second and make him throw
3. Play a true cornerback against their 3rd receiver
4. Go out and have fun, get your swagger back.
